Strangest church Signs

What are the strangest church signs/names y’all have seen?

I ask this, because just today, I ran across two that really just struck me as odd.

The first, for “Real Life CHURCH” (yes, that’s exactly the grammatical construction), with a stylized image of a cross on fire. Now, down here in the South, burning crosses don’t exactly conjure up images of holiness, so this sign was noteworthy for that reason alone.

The second was for something called “Warrior’s Church”, and the picture for that one (they’re very big on logos to go with the worship communities down here) was a silhouette of a man, arms raised at his sides, who looked more than a little bit like a Klingon from Star Trek.

So it got me thinking- what are the oddest name/sign/logo combos you’ve run across?

There’s a church that meets at my local park called “Ethos” and the sign they hang up has a stylized “t” that is cross-shaped. I would not have known it was a church, but for the “t.” Very strange name.

Coming in to the Community of Hillboro Ohio I saw this sign:

**HILLSBORO
CHURCH OF CHRIST
(Christian) **

Why in heavens name would a Church of CHRIST have to specify it was Christian???:confused:
Made me laugh at the silliness of it all.

There was a church in my area that was famously totally gutted in a fire about three years back … a year later, the sign read ‘St X’s church … a year later, we’re still on fire for Christ!’ :ehh:
 
There’s a place out towards the country called “Weeping Mary Baptist Church” and it always struck me as odd that such a vehemently protestant area would actually reference Mary…especially in their own name.

On that note, there is also a “Second Baptist Church” in town. At least they can admit that they weren’t the first on in the area.

As I understand it, there are various groups of “Campbellites”. They all began with a common history. There are those who call themselves “Church of Christ”, those who don’t use instrumental music and baptize by immersion for the forgiveness of sins.

There are “Church of Christ” that do use instrtumental music and who are also called “Christian Church”.

Then there are the Disciple of Christ who use “Christian Church” as well.

I think the sign was probably telling prospective worshipers what branch of Campbellism they were from.

Maybe it’s so they don’t get confused with the International church of Christ?
 
This isn’t a church. But LORD’S GYM is pretty funny. It’s has a picture of this muscle-bound Christ doing pushups with the Cross on his back.

There is a vehemently anti-Catholic tract by Chick Publications called “Why is Mary Crying” and that tract popped right into my head when I saw the name of the baptist Church referenced above. Perhaps these baptists may have a special outreach to Catholics and use the name to prompt questions from Catholics? Anyone heard of such a thing before?

Be that as it may - 🤷
The sign is, on the surface of it, silly.

It honestly makes the people associated with this group look rediculous to others. (well to me anyway)

I guess that’s the difference of how people see things…I believe I understood the sign and what it was trying to convey…I attended for a short time a “Christian College” that was run by the “Church of Christ” and “Christian Church”…being the only Friend among a group of people who always were trying to get me baptized was an interesting experience.

Ok that one’s not real. 😃 I made this with the Westboro Baptist Church sign generator. Made for quite a bit of entertainment, of course I’m easily amused. 👍

My mother (non religious) is always passing by buildings that are called “Insert Biblical Reference Here, Christian Church”. It blows her mind every time- “Why would they say CHRISTIAN church? Isn’t that just a given?”

I had to explain to her that it most likely indicated a non-denominational group. They weren’t Lutherans, or Methodists, or Presbyterians, for example, they were “just Christians”.

I used to live by two churches, side by side. One was Crossroads Lutheran, the other Crossroads Presbyterian. I always used to wonder which one had been there first. 😛
 
There’s a Foursquare in town here called:

His Church.

Apparently, no need for Her Church.

There’s also:
Fellowship Community Church (cause, hey let’s say it with synonyms, okay not really but they have similar meanings)

In Googling churches in town, I also came across:

Church of Jesus in America(hadn’t heard of them)
Real Life Christian Church

The one non-denom in town goes by just Westside.
 
I’m sure there are “interesting” Catholic church names. When I lived in San Jose, CA, there was “The Five Wounds Catholic church”.

Now perhaps the names of Catholic churches don’t seem “strange” to Catholics, but they do to Protestants, so I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.
 
I just saw in the news, girls with shirts saying: Hookers for Jesus.
