What helps you de-stress when your brain is absolutely wired? I’m talking stress levels where you are so tense, you can’t even focus on things you normally enjoy…

Do you have anything that helps you unwind so you can function and adjust to it all?

Listening to Gregorian chant helps me. Although I generally don’t get super stressed about much.

Blessings,
Leave whatever it is that is stressing you, if possible. Go to a quiet place and play Christian music. Your personality may like quiet, peaceful Christian music. I like TESTIFY by Wynona Judd. I get into that song and praise. Then, I’ll play quieter Christian music. Make up a list of your favorite songs on your iPhone.
Then, google a list of Bible verses for stress or calming down. Put that in your notes in your iPhone.
I like these verses, for encouragement! I pray you will feel God in these verses.

Ephesians 3:14-21 English Standard Version (ESV)
Prayer for Spiritual Strength
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

How I like to deal with extreme stress: yell at people and break things

Options I choose to exercise instead: silence, solitude, sacred music, prayer

Take time off and find out what caused the stress, then try to avoid them or at least minimise the causes.

I didn’t recommend alcohol or drug because those would not address the stress but only artificially supress it. They does not eliminate the stress, which will come back after the effect is gone.

Sadly my stress is caused by problems that I can’t avoid. They are things I normally deal with. It’s just stacking and my plate is getting “full” so to speak. I think it will get better once summer hits and some of it ebbs off.

I tend to start cleaning. 😳

Closets, drawers, file cabinets. Throwing stuff away helps me. Purging junk helps.

A creative project takes my mind off stress too.

Well, there’s crying, cursing, booze, pity party.

I kid (except for the crying part).

I journal, read inspirational books and walk in nature.

I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU, MY CHILDREN. I HAVE CARVED YOU IN THE PALM IF MY HANDS. (Isaiah ???)

I hope that helps. Testify will pep you up in praise.

I burn incense sticks. It takes me to a different place. Lavender is my favorite scent, preferably from the HEM brand.

I bottle it up and go to bed. Maybe cry myself to sleep.

No, I usually pray. 🙂 The rosary is perfect because it only requires simple, repetitive words but creates a time and space for peaceful contemplation of what life is all about beyond our daily struggles.

I sight read through new music on the piano, and I do huge jigsaw puzzles.
I love them.

When life gives you lemons (stress) find a bottle of tequila and a salt shaker. Works for me. In fact I can substitute bourbon, scotch, brandy, and a few others. A good stiff drink always settles me down. Though not a good idea for alcoholics.
P.S. I don’t get stressed much.
Which reminds me of an old joke somewhat along these lines. A man was going to New York city for a business meeting of a couple of days. When someone asked him how he dealt with the stress, he said that he would pack a bottle of whiskey in case of snake bite (read stress) But there aren’t any snakes in New York City the friend said. True, he replied, that’s why I also pack a couple of snakes.
