I’m so strees right now between everything I have going on it’s kind of making me a missable person for my parents to be around (I’m 16) and then they get upset at me…and then I’m mad at them…😦

Any good advice?

Thanks & God Bless,
Natalie

Take 10 deep breaths. Then go to your mom and say, “Mom, I love you. Sorry I’ve been kind of jerk lately. Here’s what’s going on in my life.” Then do the same with your dad. Oh, and just so you know…they were 16 once, too. Whatever you’re going through, they probably have been there.

What is it that you are so stressed over? Sometimes just talking about it helps relieve the pressure.

What I do when I’m stressed out is take a deep breath and think well, I’ve been through worse. Take what you are going through, learn from it, gain strength from it and grow from it. You are only 16, and you will likely have a lot lot more stress once you move out of mom and dads care.

Getting priorites straight is a good idea, like praying, going to Mass, living a Sacramental life, obeying parents. Homework of course and study. Then, everything else.

Agree, get your priorities straight.

What is the most important thing in this life? What is your goal?

Is it getting a job, getting a date with that girl, getting a new car, getting to start in the game, getting into the right college? Nope - none of those are your goal

Our goal is getting to heaven.

Put God and the practice of your faith first.

Your family, friends, other people second.

Yourself third (that includes jobs, cars, girls, sports and school).

When you realize what matters, you will see how much does not matter.

Stay away from the fast foods, your body needs real food to grow and mature…Diet will make the rest of your stressors even harder to deal with.
Definatly talk to mom and dad. They will respect you more for making the attempt, a family that prays together, stays togoether.

Personally, when I am stressed, I love potato soup or mashed potatoes and vanilla ice cream with peanut butter and bananas for dessert!
Find something you do have control over and give your self a sence of accomplishment, like cleaning your room. That helps me too.

I agree, it’s important to take your vitamins. I take a multi vitamin every day. I know you have a lot going on, but taking a walk or bike ride helps a lot too. When I’m stressed, I go out to tend to my tobacco. Gets my mind off stuff.

aww…nat

I know you have some issues right now. Don’t worry about your parents, I know your family life isn’t very good, be respectful, but don’t be so upset that your mad at them. You need to do stuff for you(within limits of course) go get a BF like I know you want to, I think that will make you feel loads better.

Like always, you can talk to me on AIM whenever you want, i’m there for you.
🙂

Well actually , for me, when I really talk about it I start crying and so I try to avoid thinking about it and try to just brush it off…

And I think I will try to my parents…but they are part of my problem… (mild marital problems)…so it’s going to be kind of embarrassing…like, do I tell them that they’re half of what’s stressing me? Or do I just tell them about the other stuff?

Thanks, I see what you’re saying 🙂 Hum…maybe part of this sudden stress is from the lent fasting?!? I gave up eating in between meals, sweets, chips, & soda…and those are all the food I normally eat. Do you think the sudden change in diet has anything to do with this?

…another thing, too - should I stay away from my friend during this? I think I might be making them worry about me cuz I’m so messed up right now…maybe I should not get together with them until I feel better. 🤷

Nat2,

You are 16 years old. For 16 years your parents have been modeling for you what a committed relationship should be between husband and wife. In two years you will be out on your own, either in college or the workforce, and you should have relationship skills to take with you. They have a responsibility to share with you what is stressing them - up to a point.

Sexual matters should remain private, but in my experience, sexual problems have their origins in something else, like money problems. You might stand tall and just ask them what has changed to make them so irritable or whatever, and then ask them if there’s anything you can do to help. Let them know that their behavior, as much as they may like to think they’re concealing the problem(s), has a definite trickle-down effect on you, and the best way to eliminate the difficulties is open communication.

Prepare yourself for the best and the worst. Remember, nobody likes change, but if nothing changes, nothing changes.

Be well, and good luck,

Limerick

I think being around a friend might help you truth be told

I would tell your parents what is bothering you, even if it involves them. It is pretty liberating to be able to communicate those kinds of thoughts in a calm, matter-of-fact sort of a way.

I’m praying for you!

As a Mom, I would say tell your parents what is bothering you… including them! I would rather know what’s wrong when I notice something is wrong with my kids. Especially if it’s my fault!

I don’t have any idea what kind of stress you are talking about, but I have an almost fool-proof way of immediately helping with anxiety. I suffer from Depression/Anxiety disorder. One thing that I have found when I am starting a panic attack is to grab an ice cube out of the freezer and hold it in my hand until it melts. My kids have seen me do this so often, that my 13 year old has done it herself in times of stress. So far, I don’t think she has this disorder, but it has helped her out too. It’s a simple thing, but very powerful. You can’t think of anything else but the cold ice cube in your hand and it gives your brain time to catch up to reality. 😉 Plus, it’s not harmful to your body.

Also, immerse yourself in the Holy Week services coming up. Pray pray pray and read the Psalms. There are so many that start out as cries of pain and then pull you to look UP and see God in everything.

in Christ
Steph
