Has anyone heard of the practice of striking the breast when invoking one of the saints or the Blessed Mother? For example, when saying “St. Joseph, Pray for Us!”
It is almost universally observed in the parishes I’ve been to here in south Louisiana (where the striking of the breast takes place at the end of the Hail Holy Queen prayer, at the Agnus Dei during Mass, during the Confiteor of course, and during the Elevation).
