Over the past couple of years, I have done many terrible things. I will be receiving Confirmation in a couple months and I know I need to receive Reconciliation to be alright to prepare for Confirmation.
I’m terrified to go to confession. My sins are the first thing I think of in the morning and the last thing I think about before sleeping. They bother me every hour of the day and I cannot stop thinking about them. I have done so many wrong things and I don’t know how will I have the courage to confess my sins. I know I absolutely need to go and I want to but so many fears just pop into my head. I feel like I have ruined my relationship with God and have made so many errors that seem very hard to fix. Any advice?
Please pray for me.

The greatest sinner has the right to Divine Mercy. Be not afraid of God’s Mercy!

Just go. Honestly. Go as soon as you possibly can. Go today! I understand you are afraid, but it is Jesus waiting for you there, with open arms. His heart is overflowing with mercy for you. Don’t be afraid!

Go and be at peace tonight! I’ll say a prayer for you now. 🙏

To give you some reassurance, here are a couple of perspectives that may help overcome your own fear …
  1. the priest is in persona christi
  2. the priest has heard your sins and a lot worse a lot more times
  3. the priest has divine amnesia
  4. … probably the biggie … God already knows your sins, so you won’t be telling Him anything new
be at peace, trust in the everlasting mercy that is God.

serriously: write down what you need to confess and just go in there and (sincerely) read it one thing after another. You’ll be in-and-out in two or three minutes. The fact that you are confessing those sins proves you understand that they are wrong. Don’t kneel there explaining things to the priest ! You will be glad you made a sincere, thorough confession. Do it.

Remember Christ forgave St. Mary Magdalena, and she was a really terrible sinner. She then went on to become a Saint.

Pray to the Holy Ghost for courage and strength. He will help you.
Your conscience will feel so much better after the weight of all those sins is gone.

I will pray all goes well.

Come Holy Ghost…

Focus on how great (really FANTASTIC) you will feel afterward. You will be as innocent as a little baby, a newly washed lamb. You will have a complete clean slate; God will have completely forgotten your sins and you’ve got a brand, new, shining start!
Many of us can attest to how wonderful this feels. The hardest part is just preparing and getting yourself to do it; the rest will go very smoothly.
Plan a nice feast afterward!!

The great gift of Reconcilliation is that we can put our past behind us, and start living in the Lord’s way.

You are so blessed.

I will pray for you.

Reconcilliation is a scary experience at first. It gets easier.
Guilt is good. It means we are thinking of those we hurt with our sins. It is a gift.
Shame, on the other hand, is just thinking of ourselves.

There is no point in obsessing over past sins. Confess them and leave them in the past. Christ created that sacrament just for us sinners.

Hello.

Do you have a good written examination of conscience? That will help. Also, it might help to make an appointment with the priest, if possible. If not, it helps to go early when confession time starts. Also, considering the alternative of not confessing your sins can be a real motivator. And even if it is rape, murder, etc., confess that too. God knows our hearts. But please go ASAP so you can be relieved of all this burden.

And remember, God’s mercy is infinite. You are in my prayers. Please pray for me.

St Peter denied Christ. St Paul persecuted Him. Both were great sinners. Both not only were forgiven but became great Saints, foundational in building and spreading the Church.

Trust His love and mercy.

I was terrified when I went to confession this past lent for the first time in years. I was happy that I was able to have the priest who I knew and felt comfortable and then he helped me through the confession and it was a good experience. I did go again a month later and it was still hard but I am glad that I did it. I then recently went to confession to another good priest and I started off okay but then I froze and forgot what I was going to say. He just told me to take my time. It took a little bit but I was able to confess and he also helped me through this as I was also facing a lot of challenges and we were able to talk about this for a few minutes. It leads me to peace.
