A few months ago I took confession for a mortal sin I had committed. I had struggled to accept that God would forgive me, even though I was fully repentant and know that God is loving and merciful and forgives those who repent for their sins. I felt wonderfully cleansed and had truly resolved to keep from repeating this sin. But then I did and now I feel so guilty and though I still know the Lord is merciful it’s like there’s a little voice in my head telling me that since He forgave me and I sinned again, how can He forgive me again?

This was almost two months ago and I haven’t been to mass since either because I feel too guilty to be in His presence. I really want to take confession and start attending mass again but it’s just blocking me and I don’t know what to do. I’ve just been praying the rosary and then thought of posting this so I hope this is the Blessed Virgin leading me to the path that will help me.

Come back to Mass immediately. Staying away is only deepening your problem.

If you don’t feel you can go to confession, make an appointment with a priest. He will help you.

Through the confussion created by satan, you are literally judging yourself harsher than will JESUS in the confessional.

Through his life, St. Francis of Assissi, who was the very first saint “ever” to recieve the wounds of CHRIST, had an addiction to lust, and yet today - we call him a saint.

Don’t ever give up. “Perseverence” is the foundation of sainthood. Don’t ever give up. Remember the passion of CHRIST and how HE never gave up. Don’t ever give up. Surrender to sin is a characteristic of satan. Don’t ever give up. Remember the prodigal son’s embarassment of returning to the FATHER in humility.

Sin is pride. Confession is humility. satan is pride. JESUS is humility. JESUS is the judge. Go to HIM in humility and stop listening to satan. Never give up on JESUS, as HE will never give up on you.

We will always sin, but those who give up lose their salvation. Never give up.

I suffer with this problem so much. Guilt, acceptance… but remember that was Judas’s problem too. And he was wrong. I’m going to tell you I think you need to keep going to Mass even if you sin. And I will pray that it becomes clearer for you what is best to do.
Courage and humility to the both of us! Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is all-Merciful! Pray, receive the Sacraments, and He will strengthen you.

Satan would like nothing better than have you stay away from Mass.

Think of your soul as a garden. It is beautiful soil in which the Holy Spirit wishes to work. Jesus is the Supreme Gardener and Grace is the rain. Sometimes we neglect our gardens and then weeds (sin) enter in. Some weeds are sprouts (venial) and are easily pulled out (Confession). Some sins have deep tap-roots (mortal) and are difficult to get rid of. Though Confession will absolutely remove that tap root, sometimes the tap root sprouts again and again but with each Confession it gets weaker and is more easily uprooted. I’ve gotten to the point that with mortal sin I can no longer stand the feeling of carrying it around, and I also can’t stand not being able to receive Holy Communion at Mass until I get rid of it in the confessional. Jesus prayed in the Garden, he suffered in the Garden, he appeared to Mary Magdalen as a gardener after His Resurrection until He revealed Himself. Let Grace rain on you that you be refreshed and grow! 🙂

Exactly.

Some guilt is good. So much guilt that you stay away from Mass and confession is not.

Don’t let feelings rule you. As everyone has been saying, go to confession. You aren’t the first to resolve to stop a particular sin, only to find yourself doing it again. You need to pick yourself back up and go, no matter what you feel. Don’t wait for courage, just do it. It is in tihs way you show your love for God.

Thank you all for your help. I haven’t been back to mass yet but today I went into church and prayed there a while and I feel a lot better. I’m going to go to confession on Saturday and attend the mass afterwards. Again, thank you all for your help and my the Lord bless you all.

Thank you for updating us. My prayers are with you.

Yep. Satan is playing with you. He wants you neither in the confessional nor at Mass; it’s not his habitat. Why should you let him win? 🙂

You know, we all do forget that both doubt and guilt are ways that Satain invades our relationship with God. We understand about temptation being an avenue, but we tend to forget about doubt and guilt leading us away from God. Those are more subtle tools, and Satan is very comfortable in subtlety.
🙂

The Catholic Church requires Catholics to go to mass every on Sunday or Saturday evening and other Holy Days of Obligation. By not going you are adding another sin. This one is grave also. 😦 The church doesn’t require you to receive the Eucharist every week just once a year. Just say seated or go to the bathroom when communion time comes.

If you don’t confess you sins you are condemning yourself to hell. God’s given you the means to save yourself. Use it.

Remember Jesus set it up so that the sacrament of penance may be used an infinite amount of times.

And Jesus said forgive even if they’ve done it a million times if they’re sorry! 👍
