Kreeft’s characters begin at the beginning, at the bottom of the ladder, which is the passion for truth. When it comes to the most important questions a person can ask, no mere interest in philosophical dabbling will do. The passion for truth does not stop there, however, but carries the reader from one page to the next in this thought-provoking adventure of the mind.
Among the topics, or “steps”, that Kreeft’s characters delve into include:

• Does truth exist?

  And many other important questions and topics to help climb the ladder to the truth about life.

I am reading this and just this morning I posted about it in this very forum. I am confused by the second dialogue…

What if the atheist is wrong? I’ve thought about that. I’ll say, “God, if you wanted something from me then why didn’t you speak up?”

One nice thing about being a theist is that if you’re wrong you’ll never know it.

The thing is that we already know that there is a God. We have evidence. He speaks to us in many ways.

If an atheist is wrong, he would have to explain why did he put faith in the nonexistence of God, and why he repeatedly ignored all the times that God called him or showed Himself to him. Nobody, even the most hardened unbeliever, can deny that at least once in his lifetime he experienced something that trascended the realm of our humanity, something unexplainable, something that filled him with gratitude towards something higher than himself, or perhaps an urge to extend his hand and realize that everything may be lost unless there is something higher that is watching over us, to renew our hope.

I wonder if at any time in your entire life you will be willing to truly humble yourself to your knees and, in recollection, you closed your eyes and tried to hear the voice of the living God.

If a person has a world view that excludes the existence of God, then any revelation from God would probably go unnoticed or be dismissed out of hand.

One nice thing about being a theist is that if you’re wrong you’ll never know it.

One nice thing about being a theist is that they have the Bible, the Church, and God’s moral code to inform them when they’re taking a detour from the straight and narrow. Therefore, when theists are in the wrong, they have many solid ways available to them that make it possible for them prayerfully to know, realize and acknowledge their wrong. But no such realization of wrong can be possible with atheists, since they are their own guiding light. Mass murders such as Stalin and Mao were never wrong in their own eyes and therefore had no one to answer to - as far as they believed.
