I’m 51 years old, have one brother who is four years older than me, my father has Alzheimer’s and my mother has struggled with depression for most of her adult life. My brother is married and has 2 adopted children. Shortly before he got married (15 years ago), he started using my father’s identity to obtain credit cards; my parents started receiving the bills after the wedding. This pattern continued for several years with my parents constantly forgiving and helping out. Things came to an abrupt hault 3 years ago when my sister-in-law asked me for money to pay for my brother’s car. I did it. Three months later, not only me, but my parents started to receive collection calls for payment on my brother’s car as well as other credit card debt. At that time, I made the choice to block all calls on my parent’s line from a growing number of collection agencies. In addition, I blocked to my brother’s phone number. We hadn’t talked for 2 years, when I decided to try to make peace. I unblocked the phone numbers and made several attempts to reconnect. Recently, I’ve seen my brother in the area walking to work (no car obviously) and stopped to speak with him. It was a tearful reunion. I asked him to come visit my folks, but he never did. I saw him again walking to work. I offered a ride, but he turned me away.

What I don’t express here very well are the feelings extreme frustration and overall sadness and despair over this situation. I know that my relationship with my brother will never be whole again, but I want peace for my family as Christ teaches us, but personally, I struggle with major guilt feelings, too. I’m asking for your prayers today that Jesus will show me the way.

Pray for your brother’s conversion of mind and spirit. He has no idea at this time how badly he has abused his family for many years. Pray daily, offer your sacrifices and your pain and sadness for his conversion. Then, move on with your own life. Turn him over to God, give thanks for your own gifts from God to deal with the hand you have been dealt.

I will include you and your family in my prayers.

You might like to put this request in the Prayer Intentions Forum.
Don’t feel guilty, you did what you could. It wouldn’t have been right to have kept enabling your brother stealing money from your parents as he was doing.
You di also pay in good faith until you realized you were just enabling your brother to continue using money irresponsibly.

Father, in Jesus’ name please give many graces of healing and reconciliation to this family, and graces of healing and conversion to Starr’s brother and sister-in-law.
