Struggling With Pornography?

This article, although not faith based placed the whole topic in a new perspective for me when I saw it several months ago. (I have no idea what the rest of the website is like, so just be forewarned…)

This music video, Dorian Gray by Critical Mass also addresses the topic.

I’ve noticed quite a bit of posts regarding personal impurity, and I hope that these help those people. It’s still something that I struggle with regularly.
 
Yeah those threads are never hard to find on here. I don’t even read them anymore because it’s basically the same thing over and over.
 
I need some advice. I was born, baptized and raised Roman Catholic. I go to Mass every Sunday and receive Holy Communion. I attend a major university in Los Angeles. I am the child of a single mother who is unable to help me fund my college education. College is very costly and jobs are rare. To make money, I have been doing hardcore pornography and my mother is unaware of what I am doing. I know I am committing mortal sins, but I see no other options. I don’t want to go to hell, so I decided to go to confession to confess my sins. I confessed my sins and told the Priest what I was doing and why. He told me that Jesus would forgive me. The priest told me that forgiveness requires to permanently renunciate my sins which requires me to give up all sinful proceeds. I told him I could not because of my financial situation and he would not give me absolution. I am scared that I will eventually go hell. Can anyone please give me advise?

I’d go to confession at a different church with a different priest and get a “second opinion.”
 
Annie, get out of that “industry” ASAP!

If your post is legit you need to think about physical harms as well as spiritual.Stripping /exotic dancing your way through college is risky enough, but hard-porn can kill you.Didn’t you read about the HIV spread by a porn actor recently? Or the organized crime connections? Come on.
One of my kids had to tend bar at 21 to make ends meet.Not the perfect job, but it can pay well. There are other options out there.Not to mention financial aid.
 
If we want to post specific reasons, of course there’s the physical harm aspect.

Drugs. Depression. Loss of self-respect. Loss of respect for the opposite sex (and, probably, your own).

I tend to think such a list would really mushroom.

(I guess this is a curious thing for me because it would really take a LOT, say the end of the world, before I’d do that kind of stuff. Dishwashing at the local restaurant sounds TONS better).
 
If you refuse to turn from your ways I agree with your priest. If your truly sorry you should stop the behavior and you will recieve absolution. Keep in mind that absolution doesn’t erase the time you’ll spend in purgatory. Something to keep in mind.
Have you applied for student loans? I took out $12,000 worth of student loans for nursing school and am still paying them back.
 
That thread really stuck in my mind because it was so very unusual.

I honestly don’t know how to give this guy advice: there’s a lot to be said for steering clear of the whole thing.
 
You know, Annie, the priest you went to acted properly. A valid confession requires the person is contrite, sorry, about the sin and wishes never to do it again. When told the person will continue to do the sin for which they want to confess, the appropriate response is to NOT do absolution. Doesn’t that make sense?

If you dig hard enough, you might be able to find something to help pay the bills. Ask around, that’s probably the best thing you can do; most real world jobs never end up being advertised. And it’s good to let people know you’re looking too; many will keep their ears open for something on your behalf. Heck, I don’t know anyone in LA, otherwise I’d offer to help.
 
Eventaully, I will move from this part of my life. My concerns are the requirement that I must donate all money I received from mortal sins to charity.

Will I go to hell when I stop doing this, confess my sins but I don’t donate the money to charity as the priest told me?

Maybe the priest could help her with some leads to decent jobs? She might need to ask outside confession?

Since it is unlikely that you still have all that money (You probably spent it on tuition, books, living expenses, etc.) perhaps you should stop right now, confess your sins, and make a solemn vow that your first priority upon graduation and when you get a job, is to donate it then. Or perhaps start making small donations now and donate the balance in one lump sum as soon as you can.

(Hey, I’m just trying to offer some practical suggestions here. Maybe God will accept your atonement on the Payment Plan.)
 
It’s a worthwhile idea asking the priest to help you spot a job. Priests know a lot of people, and in addition, he’d be likely to be glad to help you out. It’s nice having people network on your behalf! Multiplies the prospects.
