Struggling with scrupulosity and frustration

I just had the best confession in a long time and felt a deep sense of consolation and friendship with God. Two days later (yesterday) I failed to obey Christ when doing grading for my students and my peace is gone. I am really discouraged by how soon it was for me to lose the grace and stability I had, and have begun to get really frustrated. Ian having trouble with even p(name removed by moderator)ointing exactly how I sinned last night and I keep going between thinking I’m being scrupulous and thinking I really did sin mortally. I then get really disgruntled by how if I did sin mortally, how it is that others can go two weeks without confession and I can’t seem to stay converted for longer than a few days. I think I am guilty of pride, and wanting some kind of assurance of being right with God (please don’t get on my case about that word. I’m not talking about eternal security, I’m talking about the conditional and fallible assurance one has when they’re doing the best they can in the grace of God.). I guess I am struggling with the idea that I went to confession several times and never felt converted like I was last weekend, and to lose that is miserable and I need help to do the right things I I don’t become lukewarm, because that’s ALWAYS what happens when I fall after a mountaintop experience and I’m sick of this cycle and need it to end.

PRAYER WHEN FRUSTRATED

Lord, I feel so frustrated I just want to
scream out ‘aargh’
but I can’t even do that.
I try to get through to others what it’s like,
but I can’t.
I try to tell them how I feel,
but they don’t understand.
I try to tell them what I want, what I need,
but I can’t get through.
It’s all so hopeless.
I don’t know why I even bother trying.
I hate being helpless: I like to be doing
things and relating to people, but I can’t.
I just lie here, stuck,
unable to do anything about my situation.
Anxiously I look for signs of hope,
signs that the future might be brighter.
Any glimmer of light is seized upon,
but the joy is short-lived
because the struggle is so intense,
the frustration so great.
Will I be like this forever, Lord—
so helpless, so dependent, so stuck?
The thought is more than I can bear,
and I push it away.
Don’t leave me, Lord. I need you
like I’ve never needed you before.
At least you know what I’m thinking,
how I’m feeling.
And I know that I am not alone,
not really alone, at all.
Help me to endure the unendurable,
give me the courage to keep on trying—
again and again and again—
so that I don’t sink into the pit
of black despair.

A person struggles with scruples - what ought they do?

A person with scrupulosity --ought to have a* “regular confessor” who can direct them --and even give them some general principles* to follow -to apply (principles for them due to their particular scruples -they are usually not for those with a normal conscience). The same Priest who can thus know them and their difficulties and direct them.

Thus with their direction they can “dismiss scruples” (in the older language despise them) - “act against them”.

Scruples are to be dismissed ~ not argued with.

To borrow and image from a Carthusian from centuries ago: Scruples *are like a barking dog or a hissing goose -one does not stop to argue with a barking dog or a hissing goose does one? * No one keeps walking.

Such ‘obedience’ to a regular confessor who knows of ones scruples (except in what is manifest sin - such as if he told them it was ok to murder someone or something certain like that) is key. Such is the age old practice.

Also counseling -(especially if one also has OCD) could be helpful depending on the case -but one would want to look for a counselor who can assist one in following the Churches Teachings - not go contrary to them (I have heard CA staff mention catholictherapists.com/)
