Struggling with scrupulosity

Recently, I’ve been scared if the world ends, or what will happen to my soul if I die. With the eclipse happening in America, there will be earthquakes in the midwest which is around where I live. God likes to show signs, but I’m scared that this eclipse will signify the end of the world. I know I am being pretty silly here, but I really want to know if I will go to Heaven or Hell when I die.

I went to confession yesterday, my mom helped me get a priest after mass as I missed confession prior. Since then I have had a few intrusive thoughts which is common for me, yet those types of thoughts are ones that pull me into mortal sin in the first place. I’m not sure if I have given into, or dwelled on these impure thoughts, but I am also not sure if I should schedule a private confession with my parish priest on Monday to give me some guidance or not. Maybe I’m just giving into my scrupulosity.

If anyone could provide some help or reassurance of any sort that would be great. I feel like I’ve wasted all my chances and God won’t give me time to be forgiven if I die or if the world ends. :bighanky: I’m scared and do not know what to do other than pray.

An eclipse is just an eclipse. It does not signify anything and nor does it cause earthquakes!!

As long as you are alive, there is always mercy and hope. If one is sincere in repentance and has firm amendment of correction, then surely God will have mercy on you.

As St. Therese of Lisieux suggested, do little things for the love of God. It may help ward off scrupulous thoughts if one is constantly reminded of love of God through love of neighbor.

They don’t affect the weather (I’ve heard that this will ‘change’ it somehow) other than maybe cooling things off while the moon blocks the sun, then back to normal after.

Would it help calm your fears to realize that the other side of the world has/had eclipses (even total) before, and the world did not end, and nothing major happened? It’s interesting, but nothing to be afraid of.

If you are still worried, is there someone you could hang out with today, for a distraction? Play games, watch movies, ect.

I think in the past the bible has described earthquakes that happened when there were solar eclipses. Not sure when it was but I’ve heard news from my other Catholic friends.

Last night I woke up for no reason around 12 and I heard a loud humming coming from something in my house and the phone rang twice before it hung up and I didn’t get to see who it was. Yes, I am paranoid agh. I think to distract myself I’d rather pray the rosary or something. It’s a good practice for my own faith and I suggest everyone should pray because I live by this saying; Live is short, hell is hot. Jesus is coming, ready or not. Maybe it would help convert my boyfriend back to Catholicism if something bad did start to happen because that’s what I’ve warned him about.

If there were earthquakes during eclipses in the Bible (can you find a source/verse for this?), then it was a ‘God thing’ and not a natural thing.

Eclipses, including total ones, have been going on for centuries, and there are no earthquakes with them. There is nothing that says there must be the one with the other.

I’m in SE Georgia. It’s basically over here, and nothing happened. Got a little dim, now lightening up. We watched it on tv, too hot to go outside, lol.

Why did you pick the Midwest for the earthquake fear? Is that where you’re from, so it seemed logical? I’d say the West Coast would be a more likely spot, given the natural history.

I get those weird noises in my house, too. Houses are funny that way, sometimes. Hang in there. I’ll pray for peace for you, today and all days.
