Last Saturday, I went to confession and Sunday I received communion.
Monday afternoon, I committed the same sin again. I got angry over something and at one point used the Lord’s name in vain.
I will try to get back to confession this Saturday.
What I need is more self control and your prayers.
Any other ideas how I can stop commiting this sin.
I seem to be stuck in a revolving door.

If you blurted something out without reflection in response to anger, that’s probably not a mortal sin requiring confession.

Anyway, a cycle of sin and confession is just life. We’re never going to be perfect in this life. The thing is just keep trying to be better, but don’t be surprised when you realize you’re far from perfect.

We all sin. Even Pope Francis. It’s part of our pilgrim journey home to God

BBM, I am a long, long, long way from being excellent. I will NEVER achieve perfection.
But we must endeavor to persevere!
Thank God for confession!
I did blurt it out in anger. I just need to gain a little more self control.
I always feel stupid afterwards.

None of us will, here on earth, unless we are great saints. I have had an extremely difficult few days due to an unexpected event. I got angry yesterday . It’s all good. When you get angry, work on your response . That’s all.

If you have anger management issues , so others are being hurt , time for professional help

Thanks Warlord. I just feel frustrated because I can’t seem to get on top of this one particular sin.

Patience, my friend. Don’t beat yourself up too harshly. 🙂

Pray for me. I will pray for you.
May the love and peace of Jesus Christ be with us and in us each day!

This is one of my reoccurring sins also. I have a mouth that would make most sailors & truckers blush. 😬

My confessor gave me a great penance that has helped a lot. He had me meditate on the first line of the Our Father, “hallowed be Thy name”.
It brought me a much deeper awareness of what I was doing when I used the Lord’s name in vain.
It takes time to reprogram yourself, so be gentle with yourself.

You’ll be in my prayers.

Scott Hahn tells a great story about talking to his regular confessor and at one such reconciliation he tells the priest, “Father, I seem to be committing the same sins over and over again and it’s really starting to bother me.”

His confessor replied “So what are you saying? You want to try some new stuff?”

Be thankful that you recognize your sin and have the sacrament of Reconciliation to fall back on, again and again, and again.

One our teens gave a talk on confession to the other teens at our Life Night. She said, “It’s so cool to think that the moment you step out of the confessional, you are a perfect, living saint on Earth! Then as soon as you realize that, you get back in line to confess your sin of pride”

We are not perfect, we never will be. So isn’t it awesome that Christ gave us the ability to recognize our imperfection and let His grace heal our souls?

I used to have an out of control anger management problem. Then one day I heard someone say “The only person in the world who can make you angry or upset is yourself.” and at that moment, peace washed over me like a warm wave. Contemplate on that. When you get it and understand it, you will be free to fully immerse yourself in the peace of Christ.

God bless you brother!

Yes. I agree with everything you wrote.
It’s just that less tthan two days after my confession, I did it again.
I want to be sure that I am truly trying to avoid this sin.
I am happy to have confession. I always walk away feeling terrific afterwards. It’s a feeling of victory.
But I do feel a little depressed when I re-offend so soon.
I guess I should be happy I made it to Sunday and to Mass.

Try using a phrase often during the day to get into a good habit. Like… Praise you Jesus thank you Lord, I am getting dressed. Praise you Jesus thank you Lord! here I go out the door for my day. Use the same phrase and hopefully one day when you bang your toe on something, Praise you Jesus thank you Lord! comes out.
The grace I wish for us both.

A long time ago when I was single, I was at a Catholic event, and had someone bump my hand and my coffee spilled on my fingers. I said with the enthusiasm of the moment Praise you Jesus mighty God! A guy standing there watching that made the remark that apparently the coffee wasn’t very hot. lol I ended up marrying that guy. God’s sense of humor.

I understand what you are saying. Some days I feel the best way to avoid anything sin related is to not leave my room.
