Stuck in a rut (Let's start RCIA now)

So, I decided I wanted to become Catholic in May. It wasn’t a depiction that hit me overnight. It took a year for me to come to this conclusion. I just wasn’t ready for it last fall. But now I’m ready to go and dive into it!

I’ve been going to Mass every weekend. Talking to Catholics, priests, etc. studying the Bible. Reading books, dogmatic teachings, the catechism. Studying the saints. Praying daily. Praying to mother Mary. Asking questions…I can go on and on and on.

I’m just in a rut now…RCIA doesn’t start until late August. It seems like its taking forever. What can I do until then? My mind, body and soul craves the Eucharist. Any thoughts / suggestions?
 
Mgray, you are making me smile from ear to ear!
I teach RCIA and if I knew there were people out there like you, it would be a prayer answered! I’m praying that there is.

I think someone’s praying very hard for you right now.

My suggestion? Listen to Catholic Answers! There’s archives going back 10 years! You can read the titles to get an idea of what the topic is/speaker, etc. so dive right in! You might enjoy the Questions from Non-Catholics… They are in mp3 format so you can download a bunch and listen at your leisure…

I know it helped me a lot when I was entering the church. I didn’t have the luxury of downloading mp3s though. I had to wait with baited breath for 3pm to come and try to stream it with old technology. Sigh.

You are learning to be patient (which is a tough but important lesson). August will be here before you know it. Welcome home:)

Do some reading while you’re waiting:cool::

I’m reading George Weigel’s “Letters to a Young Catholic” right now: it’s very good (don’t be put off by the title)

You could watch the Journey Home series (interviews of protestant ministers who have become Catholic) on youtube (here’s one: youtube.com/watch?v=jKdaU0snPRY&feature=related )

Or take time for yourself and visit beautiful churches (monasteries, convents) in your area, or go for walks in the countryside.

Or listen to Gregorian Chant on youtube etc.

You may be doing all these anyway, in which case, hang tight. August will be here soon.

Ask your pastor if he might baptize you now, or after a discussion to see if you’re really prepared to follow the faith. You might get a yes. Can’t hurt to try. Welcome and God bless.
 
I love tha you asked this question! I feel the same. Its difficult to wait then mind and heart are ready. I struggle watching others take Eucharist as i feel myself not being cleansed. Although like someone said above, i lack patience in every aspect of my life so i am taking this as a time to be patient while i walk with God. I cant wait for this fall either!

I am trying very hard also to be patient. My RCIA starts Aug. 7. Right now I’ve been attending inquiry since last winter. I’m reading so much, learning so much. Praying so much too. Our time will come! It’s looking like we’ll be going through this together. The most magnificent journey we’ll ever partake in. God Bless!
 
I am right there with you. Unfortunately I have to wait two years because I have a year long annulment process first. As others have mentioned, I have absorbed myself in study. I’ll probably be able to teach the RCIA classes by the time I get there, :D. I’m also doing this in the protestant south which is no small feat. God’s grace is sufficient.
 
It’s heartening to find myself in such good company. I too am having trouble being patient (our RCIA starts in September). After going to a few summer info sessions it is amazing to see the different ways that our lord leads his flock home. I was first reached in study so if anything I will need to guard my comments:onpatrol: and allow those in the inquiry process to explore topics which I have already wrestled with for months in the road to Rome.

I will be starting a group (Tiber Swim Team Easter 2013) for any looking for fellowship as we begin this exciting journey.
 
Watch EWTN. I find it very informative and edifying for my faith. You can find many of their videos on Youtube as well.

Parishes in some dioceses have year round catechumenate. Have you called to ask?

I too am waiting for August and sometimes it seems like forever.
I crave the Eucharist and it is what led me this way.
I do read CAF daily, sometimes for hours.
Good people have loaned me books such as the suprised by truth series ( I had the first book) and the sisters brougt me Rome sweet Rome on tape (wonderful)!
I aso joined the rosary group. Doing that also made me feel much more a part.
Watching all the people recieveing the Eucharist is SO awesome its almost overwhelming!

I know that August is just next month and the sisters think I might be able to be confirmed at Christmas which is exciting BUT then I have fear set in…“what if”

I am scared not only of the possibility of my confirmation being put off for years but also of falling away if it does!!!

I think of “unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood there is no life in you”

May God be with both of us until then my friend.

I was originally supposed to start a year round RCIA program in May. But it turns out, I would have been a catechumens for a whole year. They said since I’ve never been baptized, I have to be in the catehumenate at least one whole year. Rendering me not baptized or confirmed until Easter 2014.

I went to another parish and the priest told me he would baptize me in 9 months.

The decision was obvious. Though I wanted to start RCIA right away. I decided to wait until the fall so I could be guaranteed baptized this Easter.
 
So I would like to learn the rosary before RCIA starts. Any suggestions on where to start?

I have a booklet, you can usually pick one up at church. It will have the prayers, the mysteries as well as instructions. That is how I started.
You can also look it up on the net and print one out if you wish.

Your parrish might have a rosary group. Ours meets once a week to pray the rosary.

I to am a member of the Tiber Swim Team of 2013! Like yourself, I absolutely cannot wait to recieve the Eucharist! 👍

As far as the Rosary goes, I went to the gift shop at our church and bought a two dollar Rosary. Then I found newadvent.org/images/rosary.pdf that does a pretty good job. Though I think with the “new mass” the prayers might be the old version, but otherwise I think it’s good info. 😃

A friend recently converted. Her priest gave her the book CATHECISM FOR DUMMIES which, I understand, comes highly recommended.

Do you have a Catholic Cathecism? How about THE CATHOLIC YOUTH BIBLE? I like this one because it gives explantions as you read it.

A wonderful book is THE LIFE OF CHRIST by Fulton Sheen.

Also I found CONFESSIONS OF A MEGA CHURCH PASTOR by Alan Hunt, who is a convert, excellent.

Ditto for THE HAND OF GOD by Bernard N, Nathanson, former abortionist, who also converted.
 
My wife and I went thru the RCIA process last year. It was tough after a few months and not being able to recieve the eucharist . But watching my kids bapstized in the church and going to easter vigil to finally come home the best feeling in the world. Hang in there, it will happen pray pray pray.
