OK…so I know I’m not Roman Catholic and I’ve posted about this in the past…

…but…

I have started attending Mass regularly again and the only service that is late enough is at the Student Center.

I really really don’t like how it’s run. No kneeling…HUGE congregation, the Agnus Dei is said all weird (and sung too), the Our Father is a bit different, and sung…as a matter of fact, a LOT of the service is sung…and it is done so in a Contemporary fashion.

There are no kneelers and most people don’t kneel as they enter the sanctuary. Also, people put the wafers in a bowl as they enter.

Are all of these things normal??? I get lost enough at Mass without all these quirky oddities. PLUS they don’t have Missals!

I am a student at Penn State and I do not like the on campus mass. They do not kneel here either. I do not go to it anymore. I found an off campus church to go to.

Sometimes preists sing parts of the mass. That is how they used to do the high masses when it was all done in latin. But if they are doing it in a contemporary type of style it does not sound like it is too good.

If the prayers are said differently it does not sound like it is a good mass. I do not know what you are talking about with the wafers. I have never heard of that.

There are probably alot of abuses at most college campus’s because it is a very liberal type of atmosphere.

if you have transportation try Our Lady of Victory in State College. For some reason, campus ministry centers have the impression that teens and young adults find the Mass boring if it does not replicate the music and atmosphere of their other group activities, like rock concerts. They “put on” liturgies like they were staging pep rallies instead of celebrating the mysteries and truth the Mass proclaims. They reject the real wonder and awe inherent in the prayers and rituals of the Mass for the counterfiet bells and whistles of pop culture.

I actually go to Our Lady of Victory church sometimes. It is a pretty orthodox church. I also go to the Byzantine Liturgy sometimes.

Yeh, they do that at Penn State. They sing the hymns in a pop style. They have men sing some verses and women sing others. It is pretty bad.

Unfortunately, it has been pretty common at campus ministry centers to get all crazy. Liturgical experimenters have viewed such places as a haven for their playground, safely hidden away from the bishops eyes and tossed upon the unsuspecting young people who often don’t know any better or how to go about challenging such things while supposing that this all somehow appeals to them as more relavant. Really, it is practically a form a child abuse.
