For some time I felt the call to the priesthood or community life. I know it’s not ideal to bring this up when discussing vocations, but in my search I have learned that orders turn people away with debt.
If this is the case, should I just stop looking, since chances are I won’t be accepted anywhere due to my high student debt?
Any help will be appreciated!

You could check with the vocations office in your diocese - they usually 🙂 have good resources. I wouldn’t give up my vocation because of student loan debt.

I have heard of a few orders which will accept a candidate with student loans. Generally speaking candidates seeking religious life are expected not to have any type of financial encumbrance (debt).
Have you googled religious vocations? The reason I ask is that I no longer have the URL for any of the chat lines that are set up by various orders for those discerning religious life. These chat lines are well monitored and answer questions about such topics as dating and ways that prospective candidates are finding to accelerate debt reduction, including paying off student loans. I think the Trinitarians had one such chat line.

No, I haven’t heard of orders that accept candidates with debt and I wasn’t aware that are chat rooms available for these orders. Thank you. I will check into this.
