Hello, I’m a freshman in college, and I have a prayer request for a fellow freshman girl (Kristen). I didn’t know her real well, but she was in the same dorm building as me. Last week, I received an email from the college that explained something that had happened while she and her family were on vacation over Thanksgiving. She was surfing, and somehow hurt her back. After getting back to shore, her legs felt funny, and suddenly gave out. She couldn’t get back up.
Kristen was diagnosed with having a rare condition called surfer’s myelopathy. She is only the 19th patient to have this since it was named about 12 years ago, and the cause/treatment of this condition is not well understood. She is currently undergoing physical therapy, and last I heard, she had some feeling and sensation in her legs, but was not yet able to use them.
Please pray for Kristen and her family as they deal with this sudden turn of events, and that this condition may come to be better understood, and a treatment can be found.
