Hi, I am a young college student who has just been assigned a persuasive research essay in English class and I need some help. The topic I have chosen to argue is the benefits of adult stem cell research over embryonic stem cells.

I want to limit my topic (it has to be 5-7 pages long) to the “secular” argument that adult stem cells are better/more successful than ESCs rather than the spiritual and moral arguments.

The thing I need the most help now is sources. Could you guys offer me good, credible, and up-to-date websites, experts, or other sources about stem cell research, the controversies surrounding it, and the advantages and successes of adult stem cells. My paper also has to include counter-arguments that I must either acknowledge or refute, so sites containing arguments in favor of ESCR and their rebuttals would be especially helpful.

Much appreciation, and God bless.

I’ve done a very similar paper recently though it compared the actual therapies. Unfortunately, i have to say while embryonic stem cell do have a lot of problems adult stem cells have quite a bit of weaknesses as well. I cant give experts since most of my professors study embryonic stem cells but, i do have a couple of articles for you to read. Here are some tips:
  1. You don’t have to forsake the moral argument. Just say that the moral arguments tend to impede the overall progress of the Embryonic Stem cells (the research). (Mostly due to political issues, bannings, limiting of lines, unstable funding, blah blah blah.) Why run in muddy waters?
  2. Induced Pluripotent stem cells can be derived from adult stem cells. But, for the sake of science do not forget that there are some major problems with obtaining these cells and using them. While the problems exist, the resons are theoritical currently on why they occur.
  3. Make sure to read over the documents and articles carefully. Over my research i’ve found some papers that compared the two types of cells. Though when read more carefully, it became obvious it these papers were purposely online to make it seem like adult stem cells were clearly better embryonic stem cells and it wasn’t a fare comparison due to the paper forsaking some of the strides embryonic research has had. Nothing will make a teacher madder than having unfair comparisons, purposely disregarding some strides, for the sake of others.
  4. Finally remember this is a comparison. Don’t just say Adult stem cells are better and add their good points and compare those points to the flaws of the other cells. Just change the argument on how the adults are better than embryonic. Embryonic stem cells do have some potential, and if you remove that from the argument. I cant say things will go well.
Ps. the project I had was large project, and it was all saved on my partners computer. Allow me to get the references and papers your going to need. Though your going to have to compare them, and i hope you have done some scholarly article reading already, or these things are going make your head hurt. The reading of one of the papers can take hours to understand, just to warn you.

second ps. Forgive my grammer and spelling i’m never been good at it. I’m studying to be a biomedical engineer, so stem cell therapies come up quite a bit.
