“A study, conducted by scientists at the IRD Research Centre in France, shows that insects are 15 per cent more likely to fly toward humans after they have consumed a pint.”
Link.

Add that to the previous scientific negative articles about alcohol, (1) (2) (3).

Saint Paul was very accurate in his first epistle to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 6:12):
“Everything is permissible for me”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be mastered by anything."

Not a massive percentage difference, almost within the margin of error.

I guess I’ll have to stick to margaritas this summer then! :tanning:

and the topic is in this forum because . . .
I don’t drink at all because I can’t with my meds, so why do mosquitoes flock to me? I can be the only one bitten at a large outdoor party. tell those professors I have a bone to pick with them.

. . . mosquitoes are non-Catholics. Or maybe Sam had more than a pint. 😦

Your meds might be good for them, too. Don`t be stingy!

This is absurd. My dad drinks like a fish and hasnt gotten a bite, ever. My brother is a teetotaller and gets eaten alive.

Its about body chemistry, soap/perfume choice and clothing.

I’ve also heard that mosquitoes are more attracted to people who have just eaten bananas, both my mom and myself eat lots of bananas, the bugs go after her and eat her alive, they don’t touch me.

Besides, I could also point out a few studies that have been done that show that alcoholic beverages (specifically wine) in moderation may actually be good for you. The key word here is “moderation”.

Besides, doesn’t the RCC have something to say about gluttony? 😃

Oops. Guess I need to remember to buy insect repellent with my beer. 😉

I guess I need to toss out that six pack of Shiner Heffenweisen I bought last night.

Before you throw it out, PM me for my mailing address. 😛

I left Texas :crying: 11 years ago, and haven’t had a Shiner, Lone Star, or Pearl since. 😦

Shiner has expanded its offering…it’s not just Shiner Bock or Shiner Premium. You’ve missed out on a lot.

But nothing still beats cold Shiner Bock off the tap.

Isn’t “shiner” American slang for a black eye? Are the two related?

Yes but in this context I believe it’s a beer. And “moonshine” is American slang for beer made illegally or in one’s own home. Whether they are connected, I don’t know.

Ah I see, thanks. I’ve learnt something today!

My gosh, where are you living? I am about 1000 miles from Texas, and we can get Shiner and Lone Star here in the stores.

But I wonder if Lone Star and Pearl still taste as good as you remember. Apparently, the breweries which produced them have closed down and the beers are being made, under contract, by MillerCoors in its Fort Worth plant.

As for the mosquitoes, everyone knows that beer drinkers are attractive. We don’t need a study for that. :o
