Is anyone aware of a good course of study regarding the Church Fathers?

I came across this book and it looks interesting. I also am looking at the Pope Benedict’s books on the subject, although there seem to be two separate series under different publishers going on. I currently have Jimmy Akin’s “The Fathers Know Best” and find it to be a useful resource but not really fit for sitting down and reading it as a study aid.

I simply do no have time to read “Confessions”, “summa”, etc. in their entirety so am looking for more of a commentary that can provide some decent depth without taking three years to get through.

Thanks in advance.

Peace of Christ,

Don’t have a quick resource, but you should really consider the Confessions. They rock.😃

I would love to but I am also working my way through the entire Navarre study bible series currently and I am pressed for time.

Ignatius of Antioch and Poly Carp of Smyrnia(could be spelling it wrong)were both Bishops and were students of John the Apostle was also of course a direct Student of Christ . Bishop Ignatius of Antioch has writings that verify the CAtholic church as being the Christian church .He also explains and defends the Eucharist teachings that we teach in his writings . In the Martyrdom of Poly Carp , the writer also mentions the Catholic church by name.John certainly would not steer them the wrong way neither would they us . Also read the Didache (teaching of the twelve ) This was lost for well over 1000 years . Found I believe in the 1700s . The teachings of the twelve in the Didache line up with the teachings of the church today. You can find these writings at your local Catholic book store . I hope I was a help.
