Stump the Bible Thumpers

Those of us who are LDS have encountered people armed with nothing but this type of stuff for years.

I’m all for people having their beliefs, but I find these sort of cure all cheat sheets promote contention and don’t encourage people to actually study their own beliefs.
 
I visited the website, and saw a " challenge to christians "
Something like," we don’t believe the bible is true. Prove it by healing a terminally ill person, as described in the gospel of Mark."
Didn’t Jesus deal with the prove it issue.
" If they don’t believe moses and the prophets, they won’t believe even if someone rises from the dead " –
if they don’t believe the bible, they won’t believe even if someone cures a terminal uncurable illness.
 
If the idea is just to stump someone, you can always come up with something because you’ve taken the time to hit someone who doesn’t know it’s coming and who hasn’t been afforded the time to think about it. So what?

As much as I dislike the door to door evangelical system, at least they are doing what they feel they are directed to do by conscience (or at least I give them that benefit of the doubt. When I was door-to-dooring I did it because I had to due to living with the parental units). The idea of any Christian Evangelical system must be rooted in Love. Stumping just for the sake of stumping isn’t rooted in Agape.

I vote no to these cards and the ideas behind them.
 
I have never seen these cards before. I do not think it would be too difficult to refute any of this stuff, however. I really have not encountered any of those people who are from the group on that website.

I never heard of the cards before. Very interesting.

I guess I had my own version as a child, except mine were innocent! LOL

I was reading at a very early age, and around 6 years old I began asking questions, like…"If Jesus loved all the little children of
the world then why did little kids die in in the Flood?

“Why was Cains gift bad and Abel’s good? Was it his fault he did not know God wanted a blood gift?”

“If they were the only people alive on the planet how did Cain get a wife from the land of Nod?”

“If women are created to be under man then why was “Wisdom” in the Bible like a women?”

"Why was God so mean? Why did he want enemies babies heads dashed against the stones when the Jews went to war? "

“God stopped Isaac’s dad from sacrificing him, why did he not stop Jephthah from sacrificing his daughter?” A relative had a huge bible, it had a picture of his daughter running out to meet him. I was scared and sad to find out that her dad burned her alive.

One relative was Church of Christ. I was 8 when I asked if a person died in the desert, loved God, but had no water to be baptized, was it fair that they went to hell?

So things do make me question. I think you should be able to answer difficult questions without a knee jerk response. But it is not everyones calling to do so.

As a child I was laughed at, patronized, or told pretty little girls should be seen and not heard. I often reacted with a knee jerk response. Did I mention my mouth got me into trouble a lot? LOL
 
I couldn’t find the “stumpers” on the site. Odds are they would be the same juvenile snarks that so many atheists and New Agers have thrown at me and run away shouting to avoid hearing the obvious answers.:yawn::rolleyes: :coffeeread:
One guy ran shouting all the way ahead of me to the print center to copy me a sheet of ten questions that were supposed to “shatter” my belief that the Creator created the universe. I took it home, braced myself for a late night of apologetics, saw what the questions were:rotfl: and threw it aside and got a good night’s sleep before handing it to a teenage boy the next day, who in turn answered in far less time than it had taken to copy the page and handed it back to me and resumed the conversation he’d been having with someone else.
I don’t remember the exact questions but they were along the lines of:
  1. If God created the universe in six days, why didn’t it take longer?
    Answer: The Hebrew word yom appears throughout the OT and many other ancient writings in the sense of reign, period of good or bad economic, social, meteorological etc. conditions, or sometimes even “period”, period. It makes sense to assume the days of Creation are days in the sense of periods distinguished by geological and astronomic conditions – as science affirms today. Not only that, but to someone who has no body and therefore need not join the niverse’s expansion, but remains “still” while everything physical zooms away at light-speed (that is, acc. to relativity, someone moving at light-speed relative to everything), the first 7.5 or so bil. years would seem 24 hours long, as would the next 3.7 bil., the next 1.8 bil. and so forth until six days have passed – taking us to the estimated age of the universe, and breaking time into chunks the very size cosmologists, geologists and paleontologists know the events of Biblical Creation took.
  2. Where did Cain’s wife come from?
    Answer: She was either his sister, his aunt, his niece or his cousin. Anything else?
  3. Where were the dinosaurs?
    Answer: All over the place. And?

haha good answers to your friend. the site is really kinda vague about what the actual questions are… people might not buy them if they knew th questions lol.
