Washington, DC – Congressman Bart Stupak, the pro-life Democrat who has been the consistent champion against abortion funding in the health care bill, says the Obama administration is trying to bully him. Stupak says in a new interview that he will not back down in the face of pressure from the White House.

He told the conservative news outlet, “But as soon as the news broke that they had this [compromise], and they got the 60 votes, folks were asking me, and I’m not going to run from the issue I’m going to stand up and say, ‘Look, here’s my objections.’ Here – it’s not just my objections – but there’s a number of my [colleagues] who feel strongly about this issue, and these are the parts that have to be fixed.”
Stupak also indicated he is not alone in facing pressure from the Obama administration, but that he and his pro-life colleagues in the House will not budge like Nelson did.
“We’re getting a lot of pressure not to say anything, to try to compromise this principle or belief,” Stupak told CNS. “[T]hat’s just not us. We’re not going to do that. Members who voted for the Stupak language in the House – especially the Democrats, 64 Democrats that voted for it – feel very strongly about it. It’s been part of who we are, part of our make up. It’s the principle belief that we have. We are not just going to abandon it in the name of health care.”

Prayer for Congressman Stupak and the other courageous pro-life reps, especially Democrats, that they will not back down and maintain their values in the face of this crisis.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

All you holy angels and saints, pray for us!

Please people, offer your rosary, prayers, whatever you can for the defeat of the abortion funding in this abysmal healthcare bill. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Congressman Bart Stupak has his vote and his opinion and I don’t see why he shouldn’t be able to tell everyone about it.

I’m not American and don’t really understand the whys and wherefores of US politics but it occurs to me that Congressman Stupak should recognise the moral vacuum that is now the Democrat Party and leave it. How can an honourable man guided as the Congressman clearly is by the law of God allow himself indulge a man such as Obama and a creature like Pelosi?

I don’t see a party in the USA which does not have a moral vacuum to some extent. You mentioned the moral vacuum in the Democratic party, but what about the Republicans who were endorsing torture to extract confessions or the policy of rendition, which they denied ever existed. How much corruption was there in the campaign in Iraq, money which went into the pockets of crooks, and not the law abiding people of Iraq?

Perhaps this is so. We are called to resist evil.
Abortion is an intrinsic evil and must therefore be resisted always.

Totally irrelevent to abortion.
Remember, abortion is always evil. Therefore the party that utilizes it as part of their platform must be removed from power.

Also totally irrelevent to abortion.
Abortion is always evil and must always be resisted.
We must oppose those that support this evil.
