THE SUBLIME MORALITY OF RAPE
After disposing of the three Jewish tribes of Medinah, the false prophet needed new conquests to bring in the revenues. He cast his eyes around and noticed a small tribe of Jews living some way from Medina. It is claimed that the Banu Mustaliq Jews had allied themselves with Banu Khuza’a Arabs and they intended to attack the false prophet.
Now, this is strange since the B. Mustaliq were hitherto peaceful farmers and not at all war-like. Secondly the Khuza’a were soon to be allies of the false prophet and no reason has been given for the switch in allegiance. Thirdly, the Mustaliq lived a long way from Medinah, and were obviously farmers. The Mustaliq had few fighting men and they seemed not very war-like as they surrounded after losing ten men. Now, it is very difficult to believe a community with so few and unsteadfast fighting men would even think of attacking a city with hundreds of bloodthirsty bandits. In all, the tribe consisted of only 100 families. How a tribe of 100 families would attack a city of over 1,500 seasoned bloodthirsty bandits stretches credulity.
Some say that on hearing the news of the alleged plot, the false prophet dispatched Buraidah bin Al-Haseeb Al-Aslami to have words with the chief of the Mustaliq, Al-Harith bin Dirar, on whether the report was true. Incredulously, Al-Harith told Buraidah, ‘yes, oh stranger, we are indeed going to attack Medinah’. Why Al-Harith should tell a stranger of his plans to attack Medinah has never been explained. Thus, justification for the attack on the Mustaliq was obtained.
The false prophet sent his army and they attacked the Mustaliq without warning at the well at Al-Muraisi. Ten Mustaliq fighting men were killed and the entire tribe fell into the hands of the Muslims. Much booty was captured that day: 2000 camels, 5000 sheep and 500 women. These were divided among the bandits, with 20% going to the false prophet.
Now, since the Mustaliq lived a long was from Medinah, some of the bandits, I mean Muslims, had suffered terribly from the long absence from their wives, so they asked permission from the false prophet to practice coitus interruptus on their female captives. The false prophet told them it was better that they didn’t do this, for if a soul is pre-ordained to exist it will exist. Meaning he sanctioned his followers raping their female captives.
Among these female captives was the beautiful daughter of the chief. Her name was Barrah. She had been married to Musafi’ bin Safwan, who was killed in battle. She was given to the bandit Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas. However, in order to save her tribe, she agreed to marry the false prophet, whereupon her tribe was freed on condition that they pay tribute to the false prophet. Her name was changed to Juwayriyyah. She was 20 years old and the false prophet was 58. Thus, the false prophet was able to demonstrate yet again his ‘sublime morality’, in attacking an unsuspecting peaceful people on false pretenses, sanctioning banditry, slavery and rape.
