Submitting yourself to God’s Holy Will

@Tis_Bearself You asked, why not just submit yourself to God’s will and be done with it. If only it were that easy to our difficult fallen nature!

IMO, the biggest helps to submitting to God’s will include realizing His infinite wisdom and goodness, maintaining the life of grace through constant prayer, especially short prayer, and sacrifice. And spiritual reading. Because to pray is to grow in the love of God. The more you love God, the less you fear. Custody of the mind is very important. St. John Vianney said, “God commands you to pray, but forbids you to worry.”

One of my favorite prayers brings me both comfort and peace, Bear, and I will pray it here for you now.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent,
but with great confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will,
which is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.

Yes, I say that one all the time. It closes the Divine Mercy chaplet.

That’s what I was saying about how it’s easier to submit “in difficult moments” than to deal with this concept when you’re just anticipating what the “difficult moment” might be like.
