Suffering Quote

There is a quote in my mind and I don’t remember where in St. Paul’s letters this may be found. I probably don’t have the words exactly correct. Anyway, the words, “suffering serves to bring persons of strong faith closer to God.” Thank you to whoever can help me find this!
