in the church we have a tradition of offering up our sufferings to christ. i was wondering. if we give christ our sufferings, why do we still feel them? i am probably way off on my theology on this one and i am just really confused.

The idea that one can participate in Christ Glory without first joining in Christ Suffering is a
delusion of Satan.:eek:

Consider this: If we had no pain would it actually be suffering?

Christ theme of the necessity for ALL of u to take up our cross daily and follow Him is mentionrd FIVE times; the same number of times as the Most holy Eucharist.:o

Take Up your Cross and Follow Me
Phil.2: 8 “And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross Luke.9 :23 And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. **Phil.1: 29 **“For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, “

2Thes.1: 5 “This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be made worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering “

Next to the Sacramnets and there grace; offering up ones suffering is the next best way to earn GRACE.🙂

Offering up our sufferings to Jesus is not meant to reduce our suffering in any way. It’s meant as a way for us to accept it for what it is, but at the same time, give it a much higher purpose. The spiritual merits of our own sufferings are combined with His, in order to help save sinners. Our suffering is then made similar to what Simon the Cyrenean did. In our own small way, we are helping Jesus to ‘carry’ His Cross for the sake of others. It’s a very noble gesture. :cool:
 
When Jesus suffered in the Garden, an angel came to support Him. However, angels can only console, they cannot share the suffering; only a human can share His suffering with Him. Just as Simon of Cyrene shared in the burden of the Cross, we can share in the suffering in the Garden.

There are all sorts of minor sufferings, pains, irritations, temptations, strains, stress, knockdowns, anger, and so on that we expierience every day.
If we accept these in a spirit of love for God, and offer them to Him for our sins and those of others, then we will do much good for ourselves and others.

Every morning when we make the morning offering as we rise from sleep, this is the time to dedicate those daily sufferings to the heart of Jesus for the entire day.

O Jesus, thru the immaculate heart of Mary, I offer you all my prayers, works, and sufferings of this day to your Sacred Heart in reparation for my sins and those of others,
and that what you send me will bring me closer to You.
 
You know, I really like the part of the prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus were it say’s, “Come to me all you who labor and are burden, and I will give you refresh you.”

If I don’t take away all your sufferings, it is because I cannot do so, or because I do not love you enough. Buried deep inside the nature of mankind, and inside the human heart,
there is a mystery that fulfillment-perfection-comes frm the passage through death to life. The best I can do is tell you this, show you that it applies even to me, and then ask you to follow me and trust me.
