Hello all, just wondering if someone can help me out. A co-worker during one of our many conversations about faith stated that the error of Catholicism can be summed up in the Pope’s comment at the council of Trent that “the Blood of Christ is not sufficient for salvation”. I have heard this mentioned a few times before but can’t really remember anything about it and haven’t found anything on the net. Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks

It could be one of two things. First, it does not exist, so you won’t find it anywhere. Or Two, It is out of context. I have heard something like it along the lines of " the Blood of Christ is not sufficient for salvation, without man’s co-operation." In other words even God cannot force anyone to accept the Salvation obtained by Christ on the Cross.

To amplify on the previous post, if “the Blood of Christ is sufficient for salvation” does that mean everybody will be saved? All those who call themselves Christians? All atheists? All Hindus? All Muslims? Hitler? Stalin? Mao? Bin Laden? If not, why not? If not, then apparently the Blood of Christ, while necessary, is not sufficient.

That sounds right to me.

I have no idea where the alleged quote comes from, but it is obviously true: If the blood of Christ were sufficient for salvation, we would all be saved, period.
