Hello People,

I must admit (this is made much easier by my remaining anonymous!) that I have been struggling with pornography for some time. 😊
It seems to me that, no matter how much holy stuff I place around me and my computer, I always fall anyway. I can feel these things having less and less impact on my ability to resist.

Because of this, I had put a filter on my computer. Some of you may know about K9 Web Protection. It’s a good filter, and it’s free, but there’s one bad thing about it: if you are trying to protect yourself, you always have the temptation to just enter the password to undo the block. This is a severe flaw in it: that you know the password, and can get past any block.

Now, I have uninstalled it after falling once again a few days ago. 😦 I’m fed up with how weak I am, and how it cannot stop me. (I will admit, it’s not all its fault). I’m planning on going to Confession this week.

Does anyone know of a free, better replacement? It must be free, and it must be software, because my parents don’t know I have this problem, and a free filter would be an easy solution without having to deal with telling them.

If nobody can come up with something better than K9, I plan on re-installing it, and either typing in a random password, or having someone come up with one for me (say, my confessor). I’m just fed up of falling.

God be with you all.

A little practical suggestion as I was in the same boat, download the Adblock, Webmail Ad blocker and Facebook Purity extensions. I am running Firefox but I’m fairly certain they are on all major browsers.

Adblock simply blocks all annoying ads. Advertising is a multi-million dollar business, they know human psychology like the back of their hand and they are more than willing to exploit our weaknesses.

Webmail Adblock
- If you use Gmail, Outlook.com, Hotmail or Yahoo for your email these will get rid of the adverts on your screen and expand your email onto the rest of the screen (like the paid for version of hotmail does).

Facebook purity gets rid of annoying adverts and tidies it up a lot. All of these things seem to greatly reduce the amount of filth that will appear on screen. It increases functionality, you won’t even consider getting rid of them, family members won’t notice and it will make it easier on you. It doesn’t block you from dodgy sites, not a lot will to be fair. You will need to get up, recognize you have no strength of your own, pray for humility to acknowledge this and real strength to fight the good fight.

Hell has NO claim to you, the only way to sin is by the will and no other way. You are the arbiter of your will, what you do not will, wont come to pass. We are weak, but God is strong. Remember these things. Fight. If you fall, get to confession as fast as possible, get up and fight again. There isn’t much more that humanity can do to strike fear into the devil than for him to see a person continually getting up bruised and bloodied and continuing to fight. What is particular about spiritual struggles is that you won’t ever fall due to fatigue, even if the devil tempts you to think otherwise.

A couple of quotes from St Pio:

“In the spiritual life, the more you run the less you get tired; moreover, peace, the preclude to eternal joy, will come upon us, and we shall be happy and strong according to the extent that we live in this study of making Jesus live in us, and of mortifying ourselves.”

“The Cross will not crush you; if its weight makes you stagger, its power will also sustain you.”

Keep in there bud, we men all in the same game and we’re going to be for the long haul. I’m not a person of any great strength whatsoever, if God has helped me so much, He will do the same to you. I will offer up tonight’s Rosary for you and keep you in my morning and nighttime prayers.

You do not know how much I am grateful to you for commenting! 🙂

I will look into your advice, but I don’t think that it’s my main weakness. I think my main weakness is Youtube. It is so easy to fall into bad videos on Youtube, and while my old filter used to force safety mode on the site, It would never get it all, especially if I was very vigilant in searching.

Another thing is my phone: I have internet on my phone that is impossible to filter (it’s a phone…no software). And it’s not an iPhone, either, so it doesn’t get apps. Temptation is just a click/ tap away.

You are right. I just need to fight this. I need to be a man.
I try to pray the Rosary daily, and I wear both the Brown Scapular, and the Miraculous Medal. I carry my Rosary wherever I go, and carry some other Rosaries in my jacket pockets. I go to Mass every week, and to Confession nearly every two weeks.

I feel that it is only a matter of time until I can finally break this habit, with God’s help.
For now, I just need to buy some time with these filters.

No problem! You sound like you are well on your way. Remember that it’s promised that any sin that is continually taken to a Rosary will be defeated.

You might find it is more God breaking it with your help, but it will be done.

You should give these programs a shot anyway, it only takes a few minutes to set up. If you’re anything like me, nothing ever will really stop you even bypassing a filter except yourself with God’s grace. I also fix computers for a living and I am now putting at least some of these on other peoples browsers without mentioning it to them simply because it gets rid of so much dirt and still helps with regards to functionality. Now browsing is cleaner and more risk free. If you even come across any site that has questionable photos just come right back off it again. If it’s a site you absolutely need you can block the images through Adblock by right clicking. Easy 👍

Ask a friend to come round and set the password to something that you don’t know.

I recommend asking for St. Benedict of Nursia for help and prayers. He, too, fell into temptation:

“…once, such a strong impure temptation tormented him that Benedict nearly left the grotto. However, with sure Christian resoluteness, he threw himself naked into a wild thorn bush and thus overcame the temptation.”

And, wear his medal. It is considered powerful against the evil one himself and a standard weapon of exorcists. Try to memorize the powerful Latin prayers on the face of this medal, and recite them when temptation strikes:

My God Bless You!

I am pretty much at the same point to, I don’t seem able to control myself, regardless of the efforts I put forth.

As to this problem, one way around it may be to make the password completely random. When it asks for it, just hit the keys on the keyboard a bunch of times, make it really long, and don’t write it down anywhere.

I don’t know what to tell you about uninstalling it though, as long as you’re the administrator on the machine you’ll always have that option.

There are many, many people on this forum who are dealing with the same issue, myself included, so we will all pray for you, and ask that you pray for us ^^

This isn’t really a filter but it is an accountability program which might help you. It is called X3Watch. They do have a free version of the program and also a paid version. I hope this helps you.
