So I have a person who posses a fung shui kind of statue and as catholics we should not posses those kind of statues. We live on the same house and I want to get rid of it. The problem is that the statue is not mine and the person got it as a gift from his wedding. The person would definitely disagree on throwing the statue away. It is not mine so I dont have any rights on it. What should I do? Should I sprinkle Holy Water on it?

I am assuming this person is a non catholic house mate. Since the statue belongs to him, you are in no way in possession of it. I don’t think you need to worry about it. it can be uncomfortable seeing this statue if its in the common area in which case you can request them to keep it in their room.

You can’t throw someone’s item away, dude. Tell him it makes you feel uncomfortable and work out a solution (e.g. Move it to his room if you move something of yours etc).

The statue isn’t yours, and I presume it’s not blaspheming or disrespecting your faith, so you need to respect your roommate’s possessions and beliefs.

You could ask that he please keep it in his room, however in that case you need to make sure to do the same with any religious art you have.

Holy water, certainly. Offer a prayer of spiritual warfare over it, then look at it as no more than a physical object.

Bless yourself with the holy water, daily. Sprinkle a drop for the holy souls while you’re at it.

Even if it were a statue of satan, it would be powerless. Same goes for statues of Our Lady. Or pottery made by kids… In and of themselves, they are powerless - they are made of stone or plaster…

You have to remember that you yourself are an image of Holy Baptism and faith in Christ. That cannot include granting yourself the right to commit theft.
