I’ve been trying really hard to improve in my Catholic faith, but old habits die hard. Please bare with me here. So the other day I was sitting with a group of friends. I was in a flirting in a way with one of them (I was doing some suggestive poses). Later I felt extremely guilty, and I can’t believe I did something so unbelievably stupid. It never occurred to me at the time, but was I committing a sin? Dare I say a mortal sin? I would usually go to confession, but this weekend (when my church has confession) I’m leaving on a week-long vacation to a remote island with no church. If I had to go a week in mortal sin, I would be ridiculously anxious the entire time, and it would hardly be a vacation. I suppose I could arrange a private meeting with my priest over the next few days, but I don’t want to do that unless I absolutely have to (I’m sure he already thinks I’m neurotic from my previous talks with him). I’m really sorry, but I just need a second opinion. I’m leaning towards it being a mortal sin, but am I just being scrumptious? I really love God, and I am truly trying to do the right thing. I’m freaking out right now, so please respond if you have the time. Thank you.

You do sound scrupulous (I have first hand experience of that issue). Nevertheless, the internet is the worst place to come for advice. Go and see a priest and tell him you think you are scrupulous. I reckon that’s the only way you’ll actually get some peace on your vacation.

I don’t know what you mean by suggestive poses, so I can’t really comment on whether I think it was sinful… nor should I, really. I’m just a random person on the internet.

You are being scrupulous - but I wouldn’t ask people on the internet to “bare” (bear!) with you…that could lead to all sorts of unnecessary complications…😂😂😂

Not sure what you mean by suggestive poses. But the fact you’re asking if it’s a mortal sin means at least one of the conditions that incurs a mortal sin (full knowledge) is not there and thus there is no mortal sin. That’s just my opinion though. Your priest would know better.

I cannot imagine that flirtateous body language is grave matter. Assuming the OP isn’t married and wasn’t flirting with a man other than her husband, does anyone really think that her flirting with a guy suggestively is serious enough to actually sever her relationship with God?

Seems like a tempest in a teacup.
