My father recently committed suicide. I know that there is belief that even suicide souls can go to Heaven however I am confident that the acts he committed while still on Earth would not have permitted him to go there. Thoughts?

Honestly people cannot say. It is for God to judge. We can never be certain how God judges man and at what point He sends someone to Heaven or Hell. I would just suggest you pray for his soul.

Only God knows, but there is hope. According to the the Catechism of the Catholic Church
2282 If suicide is committed with the intention of setting an example, especially to the young, it also takes on the gravity of scandal. Voluntary co-operation in suicide is contrary to the moral law.
Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide.
2283 **We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. **By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives.
There is a good chance your father maybe in Heaven.

God bless :byzsoc:

First, my heart goes out to you for your loss. I’m going to ask rhetoric questions (that I don’t expect answers to because it’s none of my business): did he leave a note or said things shortly before he died that can suggest that he was sorry for some of the things he might have done, for leaving his family behind, for not being the best father (if such was the case), that he might have reconciled with God etc. But the real answer is we don’t know. We’re obviously not God, we don’t see the real hearts of people, only their acts or their words. I’m sure there are people with God that we thought were lost, and the other way around, too.

There is always at least a brief moment between the time a person commits the act which kills him and the time his soul departs - e.g. the time he pulls the trigger and the time the bullet inflicts fatal damage. We have no way of knowing what passes between God and him in that moment. We should pray that he made good use of that moment.
