Is this committing suicide ???

Yes. I’m afraid it is, esp. if the person had the intention of being dead.

Tough moral question. Not sure you will find a definitive answer.
Trust in God’s mercy.

Since no one knows the actual intent of the deceased, making a judgement about her actions is gossip.

Given the severity of the implication of suicide on her eternal salvation, you should tread lightly on matters like this.

Frankly, if you gave any one of us the same set of facts, we could easily write the above scenario into one that would have nothing to do with suicide.

I understand your point, but I don’t think anyone’s intent here is to gossip. A question was asked about a troubling family scenario and opinions were offered in order to try to help the OP as they struggle with this.

The issue of suicide has been discussed many times on the board, and the general consensus is that no one can judge the state of ones soul, including after a possible suicide. That is entirely in the hands of God. Personally, I don’t believe that suicide automatically precludes salvation.

Can’t she did die already !!
Remember that the catechism teaches us not to despair of her salvation. I hope that helps. Praying now.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
And let the perpetual light shine upon them.
And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

That is a very difficult moral question. If a gravely ill person decides to quit taking their medication, is that the same as deliberate suicide? We are not required to accept extraordinary medical interventions. The person may very well be under severe physical and mental stress.

If this person has passed, the best thing to do is to pray for her soul and leave it to God.
