I just finished my summer class, and the good news is that I am now officially a junior in college!! The bad news is that I do not have anyone to enjoy the rest of the summer with…literally no one. It has been really getting to me lately. But I still do want to enjoy this last month.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some fun summer activities you can do by yourself? Other than drooling in front of the computer, wasting time on facebook, I am out of ideas lol.

Thanks and God bless!

What about being a tourist in your own town?
Check out local (county) museums or parks or any historical sites… or look into any outdoor activities that you may enjoy (biking trails, hiking, etc)…

Congratulations!

Consider going to meetup.com to find activities you like. I just went to a language conversation group and loved it.

Also consider googling other activities you may enjoy, whether singing, drama, art, volunteer work, etc, to find a nearby group doing those things.

I love floating in the pool on noodles. There’s usually other people there to strike up a conversation.

Check out the local community center or gym for Zumba classes, spin class, yoga stretch classes. You may even find someone to visit with after class.

Walking trails in your city can be fun. I like to walk at least one hour every day - mostly in the neighborhood - but sometimes other places.

Make a time chart for what you want to do today and just begin. Make a time schedule for each day - maybe just one day at a time.

Enjoy this down time from studies and school schedules.

Maybe take a short road trip somewhere nearby? I find that getting out on the highway on a nice sunny day is really great. Road side attractions, though sort of cheesy, are a nice way to spend an afternoon if you just want to do something different. 🙂

My favourite solo activities: geocaching, hiking, angling/fishing, photography. Ahh… and sports are the best as they put you in shape…

Geocaching could take me all day sometimes trying to find the caches. It was something new to me and I could discover amazing places (e.g: caves, old churches, etc) and of course, the little and amusing treasures that people leave in hidden locations.

Have fun and enjoy last “free” days

Take heart. We all are called to times of loneliness. I would suggest taking this time to reflect and pray. Perhaps take a semi-local pilgrimage. In other words, you don’t have to go to fatima, Lourdes, or Rome to go on a pilgrimage. Look up local shines or Basilicas in your state or neighboring state. you can get indulgences for doing this.

My family and I just took a trip to St. Louis. I made sure our first stop was the Basilica. I considered it a mini- pilgrimage.

God may have removed everyone from your life for a reason. He wants you all to himself right now. He may have something for you and wants no one to influence you . I’d find out what he wants.

If you enjoy animals, check out your local humane society. They often love to have volunteers come in and walk / play with the dogs and kitties.

👍 Totally agree with this and these suggestions!! 🙂

read a few books:😃

I suggest :St.Theresa’s autobiograhy,
St.Faustina’s diary
Glories of Mary
Try to get involved in parish activities if there is an opportunity
Pray to your Guardian Angel often.Guardian Angel is one’s best friend
Also pray to St.Rapahel

Check around to see if any barns offer guided horseback trail rides.

Find a volunteer service so you can make friends, especially at a lake or park, so you can enjoy the end of this beautiful summer outside!

Working. Or reading. Or writing. I published a bunch this summer. Gonna spend the rest in research (having earned the reserves to pay bills with).

Lots of good ideas by previous posters. Two I especially like and have done.
  1. Tour your own city (or countryside). I once decided to go looking for architectural oddities and just plain neat-looking stuff up high on buildings. It’s sometimes astounding what you’ll see up there if you look. A pair of cheap binoculars will help.
  2. Do a countryside tour of small towns. Once I was on a trip to a fairly distant city and overshot a change of highway. I quickly looked at my map and saw a slightly longer but almost equally serviceable alternate route, so I took that. I noticed on the map that all the towns on the way had German names, or nearly all did, but what surprised me was that I went past Catholic church after Catholic church in those towns. Some were incredibly well done and beautiful; very Germanic. I resolved to “tour” them on my return trip, which I did. I was absolutely astounded by some of them. Tiny little towns in the country with these almost cathedral-like churches. Incredible woodwork inside. I don’t know where you live, but if you live in any part of the country where there is a significant German or otherwise Catholic countryside, you might give that some thought. 🙂 You can usually figure out which churches the Germans built; Gothic, lots of wood, rather dark inside. Lots of times you can pick out the ones built by Irish. I think they all used the same plan. 🙂 Polish churches tend to be very bright colored inside and ornate with lots of statues and flowers or floral motifs. See, in the small towns, they didn’t move out to suburbs and build new churches there. They still use the ones built a long time ago, by and large.
Oh yes, I once found myself in a town with some really good wineries and bakeries. That was a German area too…on the Missouri River of all places.

Some tiny little towns are run down and awful. Some are astoundingly well kept.
