In May I will graduate from Penn State, and hopefully I will enter seminary in the fall (diocese of Harrisburg). My summer is basically free so I want to get involved in some type of apostolate/mission/evangelization group from May - August. Do you have any suggestions for where to find some decent Catholic groups? Location is not an issue unless it requires I live completely on my own. I know Regnum Christi has “co-workers” but that is a 2-3 year commitment.

Ideas?

Thanks!
Marc

call your diocese and ask if they sponsor Heart Youth Summer work camps, and volunteer as a counsellor/youth leader.

troloon,

I’m not very familiar with apostolates, but I’m sure the office for the Diocese of Harrisburg would be able to help you. Perhaps you might also want to contact a larger diocese (archdiocese), or contact some religious order (Franciscans, Jesuits, etc.) to see if there are any opportunities.

I presently live in the Diocese of Harrisburg, so I wish you the best of luck in your seminary studies.

While not exactly what you are asking for, there are all sorts of summer programs working with youth that exists. As an example, there are Catholic camps that are in need of good help. So, if you can’t find another option, you could look into that.

I personally am pretty involved in helping with a Boy Scout summer camp, which is what caused me to suggest this.
