Hello, I am a fellow Catholic who is facing a dilemma. As I’m sure we all know, we christians gather together in the house of the LORD on sunday or the first day of the week. Does the Catholic Church declares that sunday is the new sabbath or is more importantly, the day we commemorate the resurrection and triumph of Jesus over his adversaries ? The question stems from reading this interesting essay about comparing critically historical evidence of saturday & sunday as days of christian worship. Here is the link: biblehistory.com/The%20Origin%20of%20Sunday%20Worship.html
And, I kinda agree with the writer on this topic but would like to know honest answers from fellow catholics and, if possible the official answer concerning the Sabbath & the day of the Lord from the Church. Thank you & God bless.
PS: Correction on the essay, I don’t think the writers idea about Easter possibly being a “annual event” or something like that. You’ll see what I mean.
Here is the idea: The background from Judaism for an annual “first-fruits” celebration on Sunday provided the basis for an annual resurrection celebration among Christians. This was undoubtedly the first step toward a weekly Sunday resurrection festival.
