Sunday Fasting

After reading some of the other threads on fasting, I have a question of my own about fasting.

I know that the Eucharistic fast most prominantly happens on Sunday, since most mass attendees (or communicants, rather) attend mass on Sunday. I also know that it used to be that the communicant was to fast from midnight until reception of the Eucharist. I also know that Sunday is a day that is celebrated as a feast.

So, is it wrong, or even a sin, to fast on a Sunday? I don’t mean to fast because of the Eucharist, but to fast in general, for the purpose of fasting.

I guess the sin could come from a disordered reason to fast on Sunday, but I can’t think of anything that would fit that off hand.

Sunday is when we celebrate the Eucharist, so fasting on that day during Lent really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense (besides the pre-eucharistic fast, of course). That in a nutshell is what my previous priest told me.

I don’t think it would be a sin at all. St Francis supposedly survived the whole of one Lent on half a loaf of bread. I can’t imagine him pigging out on Sundays during that time.
