Today is 1/18/09…

Some say today is Pro-Life Sunday.
Some do not.

Some say this is the first day,
of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Some do not.

Is it both?
Is there a difference?

What is the difference between,
Respect Life Sunday and Pro-Life Sunday?

Everyday should be Christian Unity and Pro-Life day.

Sanctity of Life Sunday was instituted by Ronald Reagan. Many churches observe this including non catholic christian churches.

Usually the Sunday before the January 22, Roe vs. Wade anniversary, it is a day for services and ceremonies that reflect on the value of human life at all stages. National Sanctity of Life Day was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan January 13, 1984.

Respect Life Sunday in October was instituted by the US Bishop’s in 1972.

The American Catholic bishops initiated Respect Life Sunday in 1972, the year before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in the United States. Since that time, Catholics across the country observe the month of October with devotions and pro-life activities in order to advance the culture of life. This October, our efforts have more significance than ever. Never have we seen such abusive criticism directed toward those who believe that life begins at conception and ends at natural death.

I guess “Pro-Life Sunday”
Sounded more divisive
To all groups who call themselves Christian
Than
“Sanctity of Life Sunday”

Unity starts at points of agreement.
Not division.

Hopefully that will continue during this new presidency.

Yes, hopefully.

Though,

Sometimes people look for political saviors (good and bad),
Good thing our Savior is above that.
