Her message was about praying, talking to god and being respectful. I did watch and she didn’t go to communion. Our pastor was preaching a a different Protestant church on the other side of town. This is what happens in my town during Christian Unity Week, all the pastors play musical churches and preach at each others churches.

.
This is an uber grave liturgical abuse. Only the priest or deacon may preach the homily, never a lay person, and especially an non-Catholic protestant minister! Think of the scandal!

This is one of those things that needs to be reported to the Bishop. If it was his idea, or he doesn’t care, it needs to go to Rome. 👍

I think it was on the Kingdom of God and the hope it brings. Our pastor also pointed out that Jesus didn’t tell his disciples to leave their nets and learn to preach; He accepted that fishing was their talent and promised to make them fishers of men - to adapt their natural abilities to the Kingdom.

We have a good priest, the tabernacle was recently moved to the center of the altar. Before he was appointed it was to the side.
Our PP has brought back the altar rails as well as many other changes. Previously there were just the wood panelling either side of the crucifix. There are also shrines down the back with votive candle racks and kneelers.

I would have to agree. This was incredibly wrong for the pastor to allow.

Only Catholic Clergy may preach the homily.

Being the 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade (:() our pastor gave a rather fiery homily on the culture of death in our society, on how it (our culture) is going down a road of immorality that, unless it is stopped, will prevent a return to Godliness. He is an older man, this pastor, and his sober, clear admonitions got a rousing round of applause from the congregation. He specifically spoke about the Obama Admin’s decision to enforce birth control viz. health care – which shocked me, it is a fairly ‘liberal’ area we live in. God bless him, and all God’s servants, who stand up for the Truth and Our Lord Jesus Christ no matter the consequences.

God help America.
our parish priest is a young man and spoke of the exact same things. He said it is time to decide if we have Catholic Consciouses and will act to protect our religious rights. It was pretty impressive.

We had a very short homily today. However since it’s Christian Unity week we had the pastor from one of the local Protestor churches preach…
…???

Not my favorite church, but the priest did an excellent job of dressing it up! God job to him.

Our priest based his on the Gospel reading, specifically regarding vocations. He talked about the call he had as a young boy, and his experiences and life as a seminarian and priest. It was very positive and uplifting.
Ours based his homily on vocations too, about being called and following. Unfortunately, he said that you knew you had been truly called when what you did made you happy. If you were unhappy it meant you hadn’t truly followed a call from God. Then he talked about being on sabbatical and deciding he’d like to be a monk. He asked to be admitted to a Trappist monastery and lasted only 13 days because his gut told him he’d made a big mistake so he left.

I figure by basing it on ‘happiness’ he just convinced every person unhappy in their marriage that they just didn’t really have that call from God so they can just bail at any time. I thought it was just my interpretation of what I’d heard but someone else mentioned that they’d thought the same thing.

Wow! We must go to the same parish =). It was a wonderful homily, not comfortable or easy to listen to for everyone, but we need to know what’s going on. It was the perfect complement to the RCIA class I attended prior to Mass on Natural Family Planning and the realities of artificial birth control.

There was a thread a while back discussing what the priest talked about in his homily. What did your priest talk about at Mass this weekend? Ours talked about how we need to repent and turn from our sinful ways, for this world is passing away. I loved it because you rarely hear a homily these days on the topic of repentance.
Ours talked about being noticed by Jesus Christ just as Zaccheus was. And we do that by following His commandments and doing His work on earth.

Repentance was the subject of my Priest’s homiily yesterday as well.

I went to a Low EF Mass, there were only seven of us there (including my friend’s baby) in the small chapel at the University. The priest briefly mentioned something about how the Gospel had an excellent message about something…honestly I could not hear him very well because it was so echoey and my friend’s baby was making some noise. But he only said two or three sentences, that was all.
