Hello everyone,

I came into the church Easter 2010. I was raised Methodist.

My parish has a wonderful priest with a music background prior to entry in the priesthood. Our Sunday masses are usually almost totally sung. Also we almost always sing Agnus Dei in Latin and Kyrie Eleison in Greek. It is absolutely beautiful. Occasionally if another priest is substituting we have what I’ve seen visiting at other parishes on Sunday which is Mass where only small parts of the liturgy are sung and everything is English.

Also, our priest is 70 and was sick recently which had him out for about 6 weeks. We are so thankful for the diocesan priests who came in to fill in for him, but I must say I missed the sung mass. He is back now but I can’t help but wonder if our next priest will continue this tradition. Our priest once said that he believes “Sung” mass is coming back into “Vogue”.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think this style of mass is making a comeback. I apologize if I’m not using correct terms.

I love it - we do this at our parish as well depending on which priest is saying Mass.

Did you tried to tell the visiting priest that you and apparently others too like the sing Mass? If people know how to sing Gregorian, that is a great value, have to reserve it.

I haven’t heard a sung Mass since the early 90s. How I miss the Sursum Corda. It does make a difference, It sets the Canon apart from the rest of the Mass emphasizing it’s significance. Without it, it seems like the Most Holy Sacrifice is just blended in with the rest of the Mass and Communion reception is the most important part.

Occassionally our priest (just out of seminary) will sing the Liturgy of the Eucharist section of the Mass, in English. He does a wonderful job of it, but he doesn’t do it at every Mass.
