Does anyone remember hearing the Angelus bells? We lived about 1/2 mile from church, but could hear the nightly bells as if we right there.
Oh yes, we lived a mile from the church but could hear the Angelus and the death knell whenever a parishioner died. We always listened to find out if it was a man or a woman.Does anyone remember hearing the Angelus bells? We lived about 1/2 mile from church, but could hear the nightly bells as if we right there.

It depended on the size of the church, and the number of priests on staff.Just out of curiosity, I am wondering what the typical American parish Mass schedule was like prior to Vatican II? I know there wouldn’t be Saturday vigil Masses, but how many Masses would usually be celebrated on Sunday? And was there only one High Mass and the rest were Low Masses, or were churches allowed to celebrate multiple High Masses?
Thanks for any insights.

In the 1990’s, heard them all time, when living on the South Side. Several churches within earshot of my former domicile over there, unfortunately one was razed for parking and several of the others have been converted into condos.Does anyone remember hearing the Angelus bells?
