Sunday obligation for pre-schoolers

My wife’s parents are not Catholic. They want to take our child away for the weekend (he is 19 months old) I said that would be a mortal sin because he would miss Mass. Someone told my wife it is not an obligation until the age of 3. Does anyone know the answer? And could you please reference the source. I could not find it in the Catecism
 
Dear M,

While it is good training for children to grow up from young, attending Mass with their parents, very young children need not always attend. By the time a child reaches the age of reason (around 7 years old), he is obliged to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. But very young children are not held to the Sunday obligation.
