Here’s my question:

I am going camping in a couple weeks and my parents (who aren’t Catholic) have indicated that they would rather not leave the campground to take me to Mass on that Sunday. I can’t drive on my own, I only have a learners permit. Is it okay to go to Mass during the week instead and thus fulfill my Sunday obligation? Or do I have to put my foot down about going to Mass on Sunday? Would that be disrespectful?

If it makes a difference, I’m not a baptised Catholic yet. I start RCIA in September.

Thanks very much for any responses.
God bless

if your are not baptized yet you have no Mass obligation
a Catholic who cannot get to Mass or is too far away from a Church has no obligation
no watching it on TV or going another day does not satisfy the obligation
a Catholic who knows they will have to miss Mass can ask his priest for a dispensation, but if he finds himself in a situation where it is not possible to get to Mass, he has no obligation

welcome home, be sure to ask these questions in RCIA, that is what makes the process move, the more questions, the better the experience.

Annie has given the definitive answer here.
We can always count on Annie 👍

I just want to say that, even if you cannot go to mass, I would suggest taking some time on Sunday morning and secluding yourself for prayer, and perhaps meditate on the readings for that Sunday…

Peace
James

Thank you both! I will bring my Bible and spend some time meditating over it on Sunday.
