The ten virgins
This just came in as an insight - the parable states that the the five foolish virgins came in
‘LATER’ …how much later… . did they have to go 'far ’ …could they have been by then so worn out or beaten upby bandits … or whatever else …that the Groom could not even recognise them !
? The longer and farther we stay away …the more unrecognisable we become …whether as persons or denominations …
Or worse, could they have become so much under enemy influence , like the suicide bombers, that they would have been a threat for the wedding party…
?A good parable for need for the need for puragatory…

Some excellent observations and questions to ponder marymol.

Thank you - for the prayers of the C.F family that bring down the insights … 🙂

As mentioned before , this parable has puzzlled me somewhat, since it seemed almost at odds with The Merciful Father, in the parable of the prodigal son ; after all here are five virgins who get left out( even after having taken the trouble to go buy the oil ), for having made a mistake of seeming ignorance …( for it says the bridegroom was long delayed …)

In the Book of revelation, to the Church of Laodicea, the words -'Because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out …you say I am rich and affluent and has no need of anything …you do not realise you are wreched , poor …buy from me gold …white garments …ointment that you may see …be earnest thereore and repent "
So, could those foolish virgins too have been lukewarm , after having been chosen for such an important role …
.May be if they had real love/ zeal in their hearts ( and enough communication / relationship, with the bride and the other maids ), they too would have been prepared …
After finding out that the ‘false ecumenism’ of sharing the oil/ diluting the values of the wise ones would not work , could they have, in humility, decided to stay -in the light provided by others (such as in ’ communion of saints ') or may be asked the Brid’e’s Mother- being at a wedding house , she would have had extra oil ( didn’t she mange to help out when the wine ran out at another wedding ? :o
May our hearts be filled with the Wisdom of His Words, that bring the oil of gladness , that even when our prayers seem delayed, we would have enough love and hope , in God , that can be seen , in deeds of love .
.This would be it for now as my heart is filled with all that can be from this parable …or is it …why was the Groom delayed - did He have to fight off enemy lines that had set off to capture the bride …which the foolish ones should have known ( that the enemy is out there - hence all the more foolish , for not having been prepared, for having gone out at midnight …)
Wishing everyone some good Jewish wedding music and dance 🙂
