Hi all, some members of our parish have thought about starting a Sunday school type class before mass just basically discussing the days readings. It’s a very small parish we share one priest between 3 churches. I’m looking for advice on how to conduct the class, like how to do it in an orderly fashion, steps to take,a program or something like that. Any (name removed by moderator)ut is appreciated, thanks.

I think the CCD program in our Parish is before the 10:00 Mass – the CCD program starts an hour or so before – classes are held – and the youngsters are dismissed in time to get to the 10:00 A.M.Mass.

We have Small Group Community gatherings which follow a format. One couple welcomes members at their home, as most who live nearby attend. Another group meets at different members’ home each week. The groups meet once a week at 7:00 pm. Some on Tuesday, some groups meet on Wednesdays. Light refreshments are served. The readings for the coming Sunday are read and discussed. It is a great lead-in for Sunday Mass. You are briefed and the priest at Mass will give a homily to reinforce the Gospel. Someone serves as a moderator…the same person or a different one assigned for each week. Some include the recitation of the Holy Rosary and an opening and closing hymn. Follows material from USCCB and Catechism of the Catholic Church.
