SO… my family is heading to Mass tonight… I am going in the morning (Sunday). My family is heading out to the mall afterwards though because they enjoy it there during Christmastime… They want me to tag along with them (family activity)… Scrupulosity makes me question this yet my conscience indicates no sin… Thoughts?

God bless and Thank you!

Well, I don’t think the law has been laid down to not shop on Sunday, but in general it is encouraged to be avoided, because you are essentially causing the people whom you are buying from to work.

I don’t know if it is sinful, but I avoid it anyway just in case.

Not an expert but I think it is fine, as long as it is not instead of mass and it does not start to be an addiction, that you feel you must shop. I try to think before I buy anything, do I really need this or is it just **** that I probably won’t even use and will get thrown out soon or just sit somewhere and pick up dust? It is often the latter and so I decide not to buy.

Its a good idea if you can avoid it, but sometimes, especially around Christmas, you need to pick up something you really need. And here, in family centered (Mormon) Utah many people shop on Saturday because Mormons aren’t supposed to do anything like that including recreation on Sunday, so the stores are mobbed.

I’d try though to make Mass the centerpiece of the day.
