Please help- I am determined to find employment that does not require work on Sunday. How do I go about making a living while still conforming to the commandment to keep holy the Sabbath. I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years and feel I will have to take a whole new direction (and I’m 51! not easy) as one of the first requirements in the industry is you must be available every day, every shift.

Yikes! I’m sorry to hear that. I used to work at a hotel and one of the first things I told them was that I could not work on Sunday because I’m a religious/spiritual person and need to attend mass and I also had a church job on Sundays. So, I worked most Saturdays and never on Sundays (except for my church job).

I don’t think employers are supposed to be prejudiced against religion and I believe they are supposed to grant you time off for religious days. If that doesn’t happen, perhaps you can come up with a compromise where you can have off Sunday mornings and come in the afternoons or evenings.
