What I would love is if everyone who has ever cheated me/us thru the years would suddenly show up on our doorstep paying us back fourfold. Wouldn’t that be cool!
Only if you need it, then it would be cool other than that no it wouldn’t be all that cool at all. And you can forgive and pay your brothers and sisters debt. What I would love is if everyone who has ever cheated me/us thru the years would suddenly show up on our doorstep paying us back fourfold. I was being facetious; note the smiley. I let that stuff go long ago.Only if you need it, then it would be cool other than that no it wouldn’t be all that cool at all. And you can forgive and pay your brothers and sisters debt.
It is different to be cheated out of what is needed than to be cheated out of riches that have no eternal value.
In the Living Prayer of my life
I think this is such a wonderful image, made me smile. One thing I have always wondered about. When Jesus looked up into the tree and saw Zacchaeus, did he smile? Chuckle? Laugh out loud?
I can see Jesus laughing as he looked up at the sight of this short man in the branches of the tree. But also laughing in joy as he knew that Zacchaeus was about to be saved.
What beautiful words, God bless you for sharing them with us.Imagine a short, overweight man, not liked in the community, suddenly climbing a tree in full view of everyone. There was no love lost between Zacchaeus and the community that he collected taxes from. I am sure that everyone laughed at him as he climbed the tree to see Jesus. Yet, ignoring the obvious ridicule from all those around him, he did it anyway. Aside from the obvious lessons of this reading that have been discussed thus far is perhaps another one: the need for us to go out on a limb (pun intended) for Jesus. Even if it means making a fool of ourselves in front of others occasionally( or perhaps even if it means that others will regard us as fools). What Zacchaeus did was in full view of everyone. He did it anyway. I can think of a number of examples in my life where I could be better at proclaiming my faith in Jesus, not just in church but in my community, and not just by words but by my actions. This reading has special significance to me because once a few years ago while walking to church I was overcome by a feeling that I was small and insignificant, and that Jesus was someone that I felt I couldn’t approach at that time, probably because of my sins or something. I felt small like Zacchaeus, I remember thinking. It was a very intense and sad state I found myself in. Well, that very day the gospel reading was the one with Zacchaeus. I realized that God was speaking to me through the reading. What I really focused on was Jesus saying to Zacchaeus, " I am to stay at your house today." Even if I, out of shame fo rmy sins, couldn’t approach Jesus, Jesus sure wanted to come to me. Lastly, in answer to the first question, yes I did ponder what it would be like to give up half your belongings and pay everyone back four times over. That would be very hard for me to do. . Ishii
Both of these plants have now died…The other thing is,
I have 2 flower pots on the mantle, and if I had to give one away,
it would look funny having it only on one side.
