I use transition lenses now, and I love them. I’m photosensitive to a variety of man-made lighting(strobe lights at concerts or anywhere can be an issue, for example) and the sunshine is often blinding to me. I have epilepsy, seizure disorder, and sunshine can also trigger seizures, so I don’t want to take the chance. I also bought some clip-on shades that work extremely well, exp. in combination with the transition lenses.

Anyone relate ?
Nope. When I’m spending time outdoors, I wear glasses with Transitions lenses. Can’t see a thing without them. Can’t drive a car, can’t read signs, wouldn’t have been able to see the altar at this Mass you’re talking about.

Sunglasses are just something people wear when they’re outdoors on a sunny day. We know that UV light can damage the eyes, and UV exposure is linked to the development of cataracts.

This is nothing to be concerned about.

70 degrees is pretty cold.

Was it snow glare?
70 F degrees is cold? That’s 21.1 C. That’s tee shirt weather…you get to 75 and it’s time to swim.

Snow really begins to melt at 40F…about 4C.

I’m a New Englander though. My family in the south pulls out the parkas at around 55F

Meanwhile in New England 16 inches last week, 20 inches today and another 6-8 by tomorrow. I want to die.

It’s coat hat and mittens weather. Brr. The poor old sun would be struggling to warm a toastie!

Poor Pope’s eyes probably needed protection from it. Sheepskin lined sunnies with a little hot water bottle

👁️🔥

Swim, nothing less than 40 Celsius is swimming weather. The horror :snowman_with_snow:

Hm, for a time they were stripped of just about everything as they went into the different towns.

You would have died if you saw me last week. After the storm it was a balmy 45F so I went out and cleared my car from the snow…in a sweater and bare feet. It was wonderful to be out in the sunshine!

I thought it was disrespectful.
Why? The hat example goes back centuries, and usually only applies to men. And there is formal protocol, the Flag Code, for the flag of the United States; nothing about sunglasses is mentioned.

I wear prescription sunglasses. So a lot of glasses-wearing people only bring one pair of glasses… the pair they expect to need most in a given situation.

Not everyone has been blessed with perfect vision. 🙂

This is totally ridiculous. Why would anyone give them up for Lent? They are a critical component in keeping healthy eyes healthy.

I’m glad Jesus and his disciples didn’t have sunglasses.

Imagine - them - walking into dusty town like that.
They didn’t have any kind of glasses. Short-sighted people were essentially handicapped. Anyone over forty would have had serious trouble reading or doing fine detailed work in whatever their occupation was.

Glasses, including sunglasses, are a wonderful benefit of technology. Pretty sure those fishermen in Galilee would have loved to have a pair of dark glasses when they were out on the water, or a pair of prescription glasses when they were fixing their nets.

Jesus didn’t
  • go to the bathroom in a toilet
  • eat pizza
  • use the internet
  • use a phone
  • shovel snow
  • wear a toque
  • etc
Sunglasses are a modern invention, so of course superimposing them on Jesus would look odd.

wear a toque
A toque? You’ve got to be Canadian. 😀
Part Canadian. But it’s a better word than hat because Jesus likely did wear some kind of hat. But not a warm one meant for snow.

Jesus wearing a hat: I can’t get that picture out of my head.
