I was reading recently that there’s a version of Supergirl from Earth 2 called ‘Power Girl’ who is a bit more rough-and-tumble than the Kara that we know. It would be nice if they incorporated her into the show as I find Kara a bit too wholesome to be interesting (not the actress’s fault, I reckon). One of the better episodes I saw involved an evil - or at least reckless and self-interested - version of Kara caused by a mind-altering drug. She was so much more interesting as a ‘bad guy.’

I don’t mind the wholesome Kara, because to me, that’s part of the whole Superman/Supergirl package. They’re supposed to be beacons of goodness.

But having said that, that episode is probably my favorite so far. It’s the best written one in my opinion, and the actress really sold it. I was not expecting her to throw Cat off the balcony like that! And I liked how it wasn’t so much a split personality from Kara’s, but just all her repressed anger and frustrations finally let out.
 
Love the show. The episode about her becoming “evil” (well, basically her acting on all of her bad thoughts) was great. The actress did an amazing job 🙂

And the crossover with Flash, am I the only one who thinks they would be a cute couple? (Obviously it would be impossible, but their interactions were so cute)
 
In the episode where Supergirl turns evil, did y’all notice the homage to Superman III? I got the reference immediately.

Yes! They were adorable. My favorite part of the episode was this scene:

I also liked when they had the Flash crossover episode, and Cat says “You all look like the hip, racially diverse cast of a CW show.”

She really does have the best lines.

I also like that on The Flash, Barry’s dad is played by the actor who played The Flash in the 1980s TV show. They even brought Mark Hammill back as an aged Trickster from the 80s version.

They should have a crossover episode in which Calista Flockhart’s character dates Jesse L. Martin’s (Iris’s father from ‘Flash’) as they once did on ‘Allie McBeal’.

Indeed. I said on the previous page that all of Supergirl’s good ideas go back to Superman in some way or another. Here you go.

One idea that Supergirl has developed nicely though is the concept of the Dept. of Extranormal Operations. I’ve loved that concept ever since it was first introduced and I really appreciate how Supergirl is running with the idea of the DEO and really doing neat stuff with it.

One interesting thing I picked up on in the dialogue, is that here is Supergirl working with the government, but her cousin refuses to – because of Project Cadmus, IIRC. It will be interesting to see, assuming the series is picked up for a second season, where they take the Cadmus story line, and how/whether that affects Supergirl’s willingness to work with the government.

As the linked article states, they’re trying to reduce costs. It’s an expensive show. They are also considering moving the production from Los Angeles to Vancouver, where the other DC shows on the CW are filmed.

I didn’t know that the CW was a ‘sister network’ to CBS, until I looked into this matter.
 
I may be done with Supergirl. I just last night caught up with the last few episodes from the end of November. They brought in Maggie Sawyer, an established gay character from the comics, and put Alex (Supergirl’s adoptive sister) in a relationship with her. It just doesn’t feel right to me to continue to watch the show if that storyline continues.

If you’ve ever seen episodes of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ you’ll see this seems par for the course, sadly.

Yeah honestly even before that storyline started (and they do spend a lot of time on it as the season goes on) the show was losing its charm for me. Not sure if the writers changed when it switched networks or what but it felt different. Maybe it was the lack of Cat Grant. She really grounded the show and I loved her relationship with Kara. Without that dynamic it feels empty.

Plus I found the 180 degree turn the show took with Jimmy and Kara a little jarring. Kara says she needs time to herself (after literally spending an entire season pining after him) and then almost immediately falls for the (white) Kryptonian dude. (Or whatever he was) So yeah…part of me wonders if they put the gay storyline in there to prove their progressive cred. “We know we completely shut down, for absolutely no reason, the interracial romance that was teased for an entire season…but look we have a gay couple! See. We’re not bigots.”

Anyways yeah the show has really lost my interest since it moved to CW. Which is kind of a bummer. I really enjoyed the first season.

Nope. She was in the season premiere (and maybe the one after it) and then her character left. I heard she might still guest star every once in a while but she’s not a regular anymore.

The reason apparently had something to do with moving the filming from LA to Vancouver. Don’t think she wanted to travel that much for a TV show.
