How ,in the past, did people have “superpowers” and today no one has them, for example Samson’s strength, Elijah ability to summon bears, Moses etc.

Samson’s strength was from God by way of Samson’s faith in God (despite Samson’s sins). So his strength was not a superpower he possessed, nor was he simply the strongest human by natural power. The bears incident from 2 Kings end of chapter 2 was merely a prayer to God from the prophet. Moses did not have superpowers either, this is all just the power of God and faith.

They were stories intended to illustrate a spiritual truth, not history.

I contend that the person of Samson did exist. It’s just been embellished.

Certainly possible that there was a real person who was the basis of the story

Sounds like a great story to bolster the Israelites moral! After all, those Philistines were so wretchedly evil!!!

It’s very one sided in its portrayal 😅

Also, note the sub plot that those Philistine women are nothing but trouble, so stay away from them or they will steal your strength!

God acted through them, they did not have any extraordinary power of their own. And it was always for a specific purpose.

I don’t know about “super powers”, but spiritual gifts are also close to “unseen” nowadays. That fantastic instant and immediate super gift of healing that Jesus and the apostles had…never seen or heard of it in this century. Yes, I have heard of healing, but its not the “magic” Jesus had, the get up and go, bam healed. These days….these gifts take forever and several thousand prayers. According to me anyway.

These extraordinary spiritual gifts, often termed “charismatic gifts”, are the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, increased faith, the gifts of healing, the gift of miracles, prophecy, the discernment of spirits, diverse kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues. To these are added the gifts of apostles, prophets, teachers, helps (connected to service of the poor and sick), and governments (or leadership ability) which are connected with certain offices in the Church. These gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to individuals, but their purpose is to build up the entire Church.[1] They are described in the New Testament, primarily in 1 Corinthians 12,[6] Romans 12,[7] and Ephesians 4.[8] 1 Peter 4[9] also touches on the spiritual gifts.[2]
