McLibel case?
Longest court case in British history. You can read up about it here.

In a nutshell, protesters were handing out leaflets outside McDonalds’ restaurants in the UK making all sorts of allegations against them. They were sued by McD’s for libel, about half of the allegations, including some relating to McDs exploiting workers, were found to be true.

I volunteer for an organization that helps homeless and near-homeless people. I can tell you from experience, not some biased news report, that they give people a chance when no one else will. They keep people off the street. They also hire younger kids when no one else will. I know several people who are satisfied with their employment there. It isn’t the best job in the world, but it sure beats the local employment agency, roofing contractor or factory.

Law firms that go after these places are taking money out of the pockets of these poor people trying to *keep themselves off the street. *. Don’t you understand what is going on in the world? These big companies are being attacked like an injured cow in the Amazon, and who do these smug, self-rightreous know-it-alls think they are hurting? I will tell you. The poor blue-collar types that work in these factories and restaurants. And these same types wouldn’t think to lower themselves to help these people themselves.

And who is gaining from it? The lawyers. So, who is evil? Well, before you make judgements, work with these poor first. Then you will get a taste of what this world is really all about, and you won’t be so easily swayed by your television spin doctors. I wouldn’t give two cents to anything I hear on that television in the UK any more than I do here. Probably even less.**

Read up about the case - the protesters had hardly a penny to their names and had to defend themselves without lawyers, not being entitled to any form of legal aid or anything, against McD’s battery of lawyers.

The legal action was initiated by McDonalds, how exactly were any law firms going after them? Not like the protestors who McDs were prosecuting won a penny from them, not even to cover any of their legal costs or anything.

So which lawyers were ‘going after’ McDonalds exactly? And which lawyers took a penny out of McD’s pockets exactly, barring McD’s own in-house legal team who almost certainly work for them full-time in any event?

It’s not fast food.

It’s good food fast.

remember that.

supersize me is junk science at its VERY worst.
but we are a soundbite nation that likes fast food factoids. and supersize me, being without science, appeals to emotion and is basically a waste of 90 minutes.

but that is what people REALLY have a craving for. Fast food science.

I think this movie is great for young people to see, despite the mention of him being sexually active with his girlfriend. It gives them a quick education in the deleterious effects of modern junkfood in a hip way that appeals to them. It really got my teenager thinking.

We never eat at McDonalds, I don’t consider their food to be a part of a healthy diet. And, if I’m going to load up on calories, I will do it on good quality, deliciously prepared food, not their unappealing junk.

These so-called protestors need to find something real to protest about. You can be sure that if they had been protesting an abortion clinic, the verdict would not have been in their favor. That I can promise you, and I have experience with that as well.

These kangaroo courts are travesties of justice. Especially in the UK where there isn’t even freedom of speech. These people want their 15-minutes of fame getting their face plastered all over the TV cameras. It’s the hip thing now to go after these places. Everybody knows that. I think I have a bridge to sell you.

Yeah super size me is just covering a little of the problem that plagues our corpulent country. TV is rank. Kids eat **** like Little Debbie and Capn Crunch and sit playing video games and watching vapid reruns of dumb tv shows. America is a joke, and I’m as guilty as anyone.

If you didn’t notice, I used the word cr&p in my opening post. Is that the word you’re talking about? 😉

You’re right, food is only one part of all the junk we consume. TV is like mental junkfood.

At first I thought this thread was about someone getting cosmetic surgery, but its not. Although this might be about good food fast and some other “fast” lifestyle choices I’m still going to buy the junk once and a while. Its the fries that get me. Love them.

Haha that is the word I tried to put in there, and no I did not notice it in your post. There is nothing wrong with that word to me. :hmmm: :gopray: :coffee: 👍

The auto censor must not like that word. With all the meaness at this site though, cr&p is pretty mild.

When this subject comes up, I tend to go to McDonalds in spite of it. Granted I don’t go to McDonalds 3x a day for 30 days straight.

Eat big meals at McDonald’s 3 times a day and you can gain weight…

DUH!

I could have told you that without the money for the Netflix/Blockbuster rental…😃

Seriously. Fast food offers a service. That doesn’t mean you have to eat there every meal. Luring kids in is called marketing. Hasbro and Mattel lure kids in with marketing all the time on Saturday morning.

Hmm, I think I’ll make documentary where I shoot a fifth of tequila three times a day. Then I’ll be surprised as can be that I got drunk!!!

There’s a big problem in America with obesity and it’s causing alot of other health problems. Fast foods is a part of the problem. McDonalds is a huge corporation that makes big money from a deadly product. I liked this expose’. Yes they want to get kids hooked and keep them hooked. Fast food is just as bad as cigarettes and I’ve read physically addicting.

St. John,

My mother in law (rest her soul) had addictive foods she cooked and she was a one woman operation. The stuff she concocted would make McD’s look like diet food. But my Lord, it was sooo yummy. She was not making a dime off it, but her husband died at 50.

Anything is bad in too large a quantity. You can kill yourself by taking too many vitamins. Large corporations make those, too…

I don’t know how much of a literalist everyone is, but if you want the evolutionary reason for our love of Big Macs, here it is.

Anthropologically speaking, humans have a predilection for sugar and fat. High calorie foods, that is…It comes from a past where we did not have readily available food sources. We evolved (if you accept evolution) to like sugary, fatty foods because their high caloric content meant often times we got more than we needed at any one point. We were able to save the rest for later, in another brilliant mechanism, the fat cell.

When the lean times hit, we were able to survive longer due to these reserves. The reason so many are obese these days is because almost all processed foods are calorie dense. As this calorie density has gone up, our average activity levels have gone down. We are no longer trying to dodge leopards or lions or push plowing fields all day.

The problem is not McDonalds. The problem is personal responsibilty and time management. I enjoy McDonald’s french fries. But I am well-aware of the consequences of too many fries…

I can’t trust his integrity in carrying the experiment out honestly, nor his conclusions.

It’s so obvious he had an agenda and yet people fell for it lock, stock, and barrel.
I agree.

One thing that got on my nerves about the show was his acting. When he complained of feeling depressed in between meals, he made this hopeless puppy-dog face, and you could tell he was laying it on thick. I’ve been around way too many drama queens in my life, and I dare say I can smell them from a mile away.

His whole 30 Days also show had an obvious agenda to it in each episode. It’s just annoying, and I’m glad someone else has noticed.
